The biggest problem with steak fries (actually all fries in general) is throwing raw potato into the hot oil. This is why Five Guys and In-and-Out fries suck. The problem is compounded when you do this with thicker fries, like Steak Fries.
The potato needs to be boiled first. This is how you end up with a texture that is crispy on the outside and soft like mashed potatoes on the inside. (Think McDonalds type of textures). Otherwise you're getting firm potato inside, and those suck.

No way Mcdonald's should be rated so high. They simply aren't good anymore since they cut out the beef fat injections and drastically reduced the sodium. Sure they are healthier but who in the F want healthy fries.

Double frying is generally how crispy fries are achieved. Not boiling but I suppose boiling them accomplishes the same thing as double frying

The condiments change the rankings IMO.
Whataburger fries are nothing special but hit them with that spicy ketchup and now they are better than all the rest. Similar to chick fil a. Hit them with that siracha and they are now unreal.
If we are just talking plain fries though Wendys and Chick Fil A have to be up there.

i even admitted i like their soggy fries. Even those are better than mcdonalds. Atomci is my hang over go-to on uber eats

Either process works, but a more important step if using fresh cut potatoes is to soak them in water for at least 30 minutes after cutting them.
