Yep.

Urban South Distilling (allegedly).

Hey Cafe moving to Tips to sell out a window.

According to someone I know who also posts things on that board.

Fwiw, the story is that the owner wanted out and reopening somewhere else doesn't seem likely.

Friend,

Ms. Mae died in July of 2004. It was a tragedy for our family. Her last words to me were, "TulaneLSU, life is like a streetcar." There isn't a day that I don't think of and miss her. She was a wonderful woman, better than any of us deserve. She taught me how to cook, make a sandwich, and dream outside the standards that edged me in during childhood. I wouldn't be the same without her. May we all have a Ms. Mae in our lives.

If this is regarding the bar new Casamento's, I feel no pity. One less bar in the city.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

Friend,

That's a different Ms. Mae. The real and true Ms. Mae helped raise me. She was a wonderful woman who also did not touch alcohol, neither on her lips nor in her hands. She dressed impeccably and had superb manners. I will one day write an entire letter, perhaps a paean, to honor her beautiful memory and everlasting influence in my life.

Yours,

Agreed. Another example of how government fricks up everything.

Latoya will not be bullied. Closing Miss Mae’s will probably save the life of an 80 year old

Place was a disgusting dump that I might have stepped in twice in the past 20 years.

That said, I found the existence of the place oddly comforting and reassuring. Scattered 24/7 drinking establishments are as much a part of New Orleans as anything. Instead, looks as though they may all be going the way of the dinosaurs.

I find it hard to believe urban south’s plan to open a distillery involves closing down an uptown institution and turning the city’s drinkers against them. Plenty of warehouse space open all over the city for that...

Why do breweries do this? Has anyone had any liquor from NOLA distillery?

Good. Maybe it’ll wake some people up.

Agreed...haven't been there in years, but it stood at a prominent intersection as a reminder of the New Orleans I grew up with. Things began changing after Katrina, but now the neighborhood dive bar, 24/7 bars, and to go cups are now all in serious jeopardy (and under full assault by the governor and mayor).

Friend of mine has a condo right across the street. Loved Ms. Mae's after an evening in the Quarter.

Hoping the rumors of it becoming a brewpub are true.

That almost seems sadder. And I generally like brewpubs.
