The fried chicken and red beans is one of my favorite dishes in BR

Probably not, but it should be short if they do. You're going to love it GG.

It's been high on my list in BR. I just haven't been in a position to select it on last trips.

I wouldn't say that. We've been there twice and my wife didn't care for her food either time. The first time she had the bisque, which she didn't like because it wasn't the traditional type with the stuffed heads. They forgot to put the balls and we had the tell the server. I forget what she got the second time, but I remember I tried whatever it was and I agreed it wasn't very good. I do think their red beans are excellent. Fried chicken was pretty mediocre.

It's a hit-and-miss type of place.

We got to Elsie's about 11:40. Parking is in the rear and there were no parking spots available. We lucked up with someone pulling out and got the last spot.

There were 4 of us. We were seated right away at a table for 6 which was the only table available from what I could tell. A little while later, one of my party had to go outside to take a call and said that there were a lot of people waiting on tables. When we finished our meal and left, the entry area was packed with folks and that was about 1:15.

The wait staff was very attentive and very friendly, welcoming, really. It's a neat venue inside.

We got the pork rinds without the queso to munch on while everyone perused the menu. They were warm, crisp, airy and well seasoned.

One person got the red beans with the fried chicken. She enjoyed the beans. The chicken looked overcooked and was dry. It appeared to be a large flattened boneless skinless breast, very dark and crispy, but dry.

One person got the pork chop with the blueberry barbecue sauce. It was a nice thick chop with good color. He said it was good, but not more than just good. He didn't eat much of the fries that came with it. Nothing standout about them.

Two of us got the seafood pie. It was steaming hot which I loved. The crust on the pie is outstanding. I could eat that alone. The sauce was okay. It's supposed to be a roasted red bell pepper sauce, but I didn't taste much in the way of red bell pepper. It had a fair amount of crawfish tails, which was a good thing because I only got two shrimp and saw no crabmeat, not even any strands. I had more bites of crust and sauce than bites with seafood in it. Both of us were disappointed in the amount of seafood. I think my Mom only had 1 shrimp in hers. Overall, it was tasty, but lacking in seafood. It could have been a dip for pieces of pie crust.

One person got the lemon ice box pie to go and she loved it. I got the coconut cream pie to go. I ate part of it last night and it was delicious. I'm looking forward to the rest this evening.

We weren't blown away, but I would go again. There are other menu items I'd like to try.

Same, been a half dozen times and twice with food people in town. Dont have a reason to go back. So many other spots in town with better food, service and less of a PITA.

Elsie’s is just too heavy handed in everything they do.

Exactly. It's decent, it's good, but not worthy of the amazing/to die for reviews that it receives here.
