Eating at restaurant bar.

What are your thoughts on eating at the restaurant bar besides waiting for an hour or two for a table. Me and the wife recently went to Does and there was an hour wait. We were told we could eat at the bar without any wait and we actually got very good service.

If your party is two at most, go for it. No reason a couple or two buddies should wait while the bar is open, unless you'd rather a bit more alone time with a s/o
More than two can be inconsiderate unless the bar is pretty empty. Depends on context really.

Fairly sure you answered your own question. The bar is a good option if there's a long wait for a table.

actually prefer it with two people. Bartenders usually give great service.

If it's just me, or just me and someone else, I do it all the time.
Any more than two people though, and I prefer a table.

Agree. Would not consider if it was more than two people

Yeah, unless you can get a corner of the bar it can be awkward.

My SO and I frequently eat at the bar even when tables are available.

Bar is almost always my first choice. Three is fine, person in the middle just can't be a bar hugger.

My wife and I do it often if there’s a stupid wait. I enjoy it.

Correct, and I'm closer to the booze.

If it is just 2 people I eat at the bar 95% of the time if possible

I prefer to sit at the bar because your server can’t go hide in the kitchen

As others have said, I have no mind sitting at the bar by myself or with my girlfriend. Any more than that, it's awkward talking across people and looking sideways for an entire meal.

I much prefer this. Anytime it's just me and the wife, we ALWAYS sit at the bar. At this point, being seated at a table feels kinda weird

If its just my wife and I we prefer to eat at the bar.

The most I like to sit at a bar with to eat is 3. Once you go 4 or more, the outside people can't really have an easy conversation. 3 or less, have at it.

This is my choice when dining alone (esp for business travel)--though at times, bar seating can be a PITA for us short ppl. Too tall stools without a proper foot rest aren't the most comfortable of perches.
