And who's to say he doesn't feel that his employees have done that?

I'd have to assume this raise comes after his staff have returned to work despite making more on unemployment.. something very few industry workers have done without being compensated extra.

Tipping in America is discretionary and factors in performance, delivery of food and the person having a positive experience and making a decision of what that’s worth.

Sounds like T&W says frick that and help pay my employees salary.

Well frankly, they're dumb setting it up the way they are because it is going to cost them more money in the long run. The business owner does not have to pay sales tax on gratuities but they do have to pay sales tax on mandatory service charges.

So like everything else with hipsters, this may make them "feel" better but it is costing them more money in the long run.

They can do what they want, doesn't make it smart.

The restaurants went up on their prices, but did it without having to raise their actual prices.

It's the same gimmick as 19.95 +S&H.

Only the restaurants are patting themselves on the back about being good employers providing benefits.

Wrong

You get a raise when your value to the organization increases, thus increasing the revenue of the business.

In a lot of businesses/industries sticking around for a long time = value. Maybe not so much by being a counter person at a hipsterish sandwich shop.

I always tip 20% so it doesn't matter to me. I'm just pointing out the stupidity and the reasons not to do it this way. One of them being shaming your customers into paying your staff more money because you don't do it yourself.

Despite him being new, I would think he knows what the average tip is and went with a value similar or just above.

First it’s bologna sandwiches, then it’s my drug dealers. This is a slippery slope.

This is true. Employee turnover costs businesses huge money. It costs money to attract, hire, and train new employees. Plus their is the brain drain when veteran employees leave. There is value in raises due to longevity.

We’re talking sandwich artists, not plumbers or electricians.

This guy just does stuff so ppl will talk about him.

If the food is good - who cares - but I am tired of all the political bull shite at some of these places

And this neighborhood is still rough despite what the hipsters tell you - it was rough when my Irish ancestors got off the boat and settled there - it still is even though a few whiteys have bought some places and fixed it up

You can get to Walmart in less than 3 mins. Seems like a bargain imo.
