What's the story on this place?

We've dined in twice, plus ordered a few times from Waitr.

Food is good and fresh, prices are awesome, margaritas are good.

But the place is empty. In the Mecca of shitty chain restaurants and bad Mexican food, why is this place empty on a Saturday night?

I've heard the food is good, but for whatever reason it feels like one of those locations that won't thrive. Which is dumb because it's right in the middle of town but.. I just get that feeling.

Which might as well be world class when it comes to your other TexMex/Mexican options in Baton Rouge.

Ate their last Friday and enjoyed it. I didn't even know it was a Mexican restaurant now until my wife told me. I think the location being in a Walmart parking lot might give a negative perception of the restaurant. I though it was still that Chinese buffet joint.

I guess so. We really like the food -- it's our go-to now that we know about it. But we walked in at 8pm last night (which admittedly is "late" in BR), but there was only one section open. I don't know the restaurant business, but I do know that this isnt sustainable.

I drove by that location so many times I don't even see it anymore. They need to draw some attention to theirself. Wiggle that arse.

I didn't know this place existed until I read this. They definitely need to advertise a bit more. Maybe hire that homeless dude in the wheelchair on college to wear a sombrero and hold up a humorous sign pointing their way.

That road is a disaster for traffic. Car traffic is good for a business until it makes it difficult to get to your restaurant

Is this the same Don Jose in Metairie? Because the one in Metairie is a hell of a value.

The building itself doesn't stand out because it looks just like every other building in the shopping center. Plus, there are trees that line the right side of College (southbound) that kind of obscure the view of the signage on the building. There is nothing that catches your eye at that location, so if you don't know about it already, you probably will never realize it's there.

Not sure why, but there are a few places like that right in the middle of town that will never make it, no matter what is put there:

1. Perkins/Essen - was Calendar's for years, then Marcello's then Lasseine's (sp?), now like the 5th sushi place in a 2 block radius...that place won't make it.

2. Acadian/I10 - That place that was Coyote Blue's, now Saltgrass Steakhouse? Not going to last...

We do not need anymore Mexican or sushi places. What seems to be hot right now are places that are like a wine bar/craft cocktails/tapas.... Bin 77, Olive or Twist and the Merchant are all killing it right now. Just an observation.
