I think the old Calendar's spot is cursed from the horrible murder that happened there.

I'm surprised Coyote Blues went under, although I think the bloom went off of the rose rather quickly. (I worked for a business that every time it was someone's birthday, or a supervisor was in town, or someone was leaving, we had lunch at Coyote Blues -- I got burnt out after eating there once a month for a year). That's the sort of location you probably have to be a chain with deep pockets to make it work.

If the folks who run Pamplona in Lafayette would open up a restaurant in Baton Rouge, they would do great. The old Southdowns Lounge/Table spot would be perfect for that.

I also wish they would do something with the old Shing's on Government. Although when we win Powerball, my wife will put a tiki bar there that serves old school Chinese appetizers, so maybe it's best that it stays vacant.

What seems to be hot right now are places that are like a wine bar/craft cocktails/tapas.... Bin 77, Olive or Twist and the Merchant are all killing it right now. Just an observation.

Agree. We need more trendy type spots. While cocktail/small plates is no new concept in bigger cities, BR is only recently starting to see it appear and people are eating it up.

I think we are finally seeing a shift from places that all serve the same food. I wouldn't be surprised one bit to see new spots that are doing the same ole thing close soon, for example Canefield Tavern. We don't need any more fried seafood/poboys/burgers/chicken sandwiches type spots.

I was just thinking this past weekend how much I'd love a Chinese cocktail bar/small plates type place. I was craving ethnic food, but it was a Saturday night and I didn't want to sit in some empty bland place with no alcohol. I was imagining how nice a Chinese spot with good drinks and a fun atmosphere would be.

It's another Logan's/Outback/big chain-type steakhouse right? Nothing special. That location needs something interesting to stick.

The small margarita was in fact, small. I asked what a medium was and it was 20 oz.
