We lived one block away on Government Street in the late 60s and went there every day. A bag of fresh cut french fries for 50 cents. My mom used to get a hambone over there to cook a pot of beans with

My grandmother right down the street on Esplanade. Joe D's was a huge part of my childhood in the 70s and 80s. It's sorely missed.

My best friend in college's family owned it. I know exactly how they made their fried chicken.

Lived down the street on Audubon. Great place to sneak off from Westdale Jr.High to get lunch back in the early '70's.

we used to give my friend hell (he worked the deli while he was at LSU) and jump the counter & start frying up some boudin balls.
i watched him run those whole chickens through the saw and it scared the hell out of me. he would move so fast and his fingers would be literally an inch away when he pulled them back
they went through truckloads of chickens on LSU game days. honest to God...a woman came in one day and asked for the recipe and why their chicken was so good.
he said "you know what? i'm actually going to tell you. it is literally flour seasoned with salt & pepper. that's it." she got pissed and said "well you could have just said you didn't want to tell me" and he just laughed. of course the fryer was coated with 60+ years of grease aka rocky & carlos..which is where the flavor was coming from.

You nailed other than the fresh chicken. Do flour w ton of pepper mixed into it. Salt and pepper chicken and them flour it up and let sit for about 5 minutes and then drop in grease.
