If they fall without spilling the drinks, I give them $5.

What about Picadilly?

Absolutely.
I always have, but now that I work in a restaurant and am forced to take 1-2 "to go" shifts per week, I definitely do it.

Not everyone does though, and your to-go person doesn't "expect" it.

I always leave a few dollars on the table for the ladies. I figure if the only waitress job you can get is Picadilly you really deserve a couple of bucks from someone that can afford it.

Yes. You should tip at least a small amount when picking up take out orders.

At a buffet or a cafeteria you should leave a couple of bucks for the person who will clean your table.

No need to tip at a McDonalds, etc. And whoever brought up the cashier at a gas station is just being silly.

Usually I don't.

When I worked at a restaurant, the kitchen cooked and boxed the food. The bartender put it in a bag and had it waiting at the bar. Not tip worthy. Not like me throwing them a $1 is going to change anything.

I assume all restaurants are the same. I know I'm wrong in that thought, but I don't really care. As a former waiter, they deserve to be tipped.

I'd rather tip the barista at Starbucks. At least they take my order, make my drink, and then serve it to me. I don't typically tip them either

I'm perfectly delightful at a restaurant. I order well and tip accordingly. I'm not going to lie like 90% on here and say I gave a 30% minimum, but a server has to be pretty bad to not get at least 18-20%.

Sorry, I'm not buying into the myth that the "to-go" person does anything that warrants a tip. Usually it's a bartender who isn't relying on to-go order money to pay their bills.

To be fair, I almost never order food to-go from a restaurant. I'm always dissapointed in the quality by the time I get home.

These are people I see all of the time and they take care of me

These people I tip 20% on my to-go order, and is honestly about the only time I get take out is after I had a couple of beers at happy hour and figured it would be easier than cooking.

At a random restaurant...2 bucks or so usually depending on size of order, and the timeliness that I got my order.

I agree with all that. Recently I had a few beers at Pluckers while waiting on food. Of course I tipped the bartender and even threw a few bucks towards the hostess because it was a large order.

Buffets usually get $1-$2. All based on how quickly my drink is refilled and how quickly dirty plates are cleared.

I would be more inclined to tip a to-go order at a local establishment then a large chain restaurant.

Why would you tip at a take out place? They put your food in a bag. Do you tip the WalMart cashier for putting your food in a bag?

Why can't some of you understand that there are different kinds of situations at different restaurants where you get takeout.

Of course nobody should tip at fast foot places, including subway, etc.

I don't begrudge anyone who doesn't tip for a call in order at Apple Bees or Outback, etc. I still give $1 or $2 though on the very rare chance I order take out from a place like this.

When I call to Mark Twain's pizza shop, or Mr. Eds, or Royal China, guess who is taking my order? Guess who is boxing it up? It is either a bartener or server. They are taking some time to serve me. I will see these people again next week or next month. Why would I not tip them a little? Of course not 20%, but a minimum $2.

Me too. Technically... I guess they really aren't "waiting" on me... but, the Sonic I go to seems to have very polite, hard-working young folks skating there. I'll throw them a bone.

I don't tip any place I have to order food at the counter or on the phone and pick it up my self.

I tip 3 bucks or so on the credit card receipt. I fell they earned something bagging it up for me.

Not carry out pizza or anything. I never got that. I was a mgr at a Dominos years ago and I used ot get 50 bucks a night from carry out tips.

I tip 10% at places like the chinese take out or po-boy take out. I usually tip the pizza delivery person 20%.
