Do you in a restaurant bow your head and say grace? With yourself, with family, with a dinner party of friends?

I do with all of the above. Do people stare? Are you the one staring? I read the Alton Brown thread and it reminded me I heard him say he prayed at dinner and people looked at him funny.

And if you see me bow my head, maybe hold hands with those seated next to me, say a prayer, give an amen and then sip on my wine do you think I'm a hypocrite? No? How about a single malt scotch?

Since I normally make a pretty long hunting road trip this time of year with friends and as soon as I slam the truck door I say "we have 12 hours on the road, so let me tell you about Jesus." (normally I hear weapons being cocked) I'm not making it so "let's have a food board talk about Jesus" or a Pontiac or a rock. Whatever you are praying for.

We are coming into the holidays. Let's hear what you sinners have to say. ( and I'm praying for Arse's colon not to explode)

How much ice you putting in that single malt? I'll stare and glare if it's too much...

I have always prayed at meals....with others or alone. Doesn't phase me one bit if people stare or not. Sign of the cross and bless us our Lord.....

More often than not when that happens, maybe I've been fortunate, I get a that's really cool remark.

Always except for 3 years at Lee High BR I went to Catholic schools & my parents said grace. Doing so is second nature for me.

Eating with the fam, 100% of the time. Eating out, not near as often. Hopefully mom doesn't read this.

Sometimes but not always.

No. Of course hypocrite is a very misused word.

I know I'm a screw up, and I know merit is not going to do it for me.

Never.

I'd just ask if I could be let out and catch a ride home.

We (the wife - MHNBPF - and I) pray at all meals. We pray at home and in public. We hold hands. When we are with friends, I invite them to pray with us and have never been refused. Once or twice when I finished our prayer, they were crying, so perhaps ....

If I know you to be a person who practices their faith, I may ask you to pray. The only time I do not do this is when I am your guest. At those times I say a quick silent prayer.

If I am having a drink, I thank God for the blessings of life, food, drink and friends.

Occasionally I see people staring. Might be my prayer and it might just be me they were intrigued by.

Once a pastor got up and walked over to our table. He said, "I saw your little prayer there." I responded, "Sir, there is no such thing as a little prayer." He looked shocked, then smiled, said "You are correct," and walked away.

God is good and all good things flow from his throne.

I prompt my family to sit down and pray, only at one of our homes, so I can get everyone seated to eat. I just bow my head until they're done. Sometimes at a restaurant we'll hold hands and bow heads. Sometimes the prayer is in a circle outside, for bbq or crawfish.

I don't pray because I don't believe in a creator, but I did go to Catholic school for 13 years so I know to be respectful. I'm glad they believe, wish I could.

Only when my grandmother is around. I'll admit that the older I get and more knowledge I attain I get further and further away from religion, though.

At home with family, yes.

My family doesn't in public, but I always do in a private manner, even if I'm alone.

Drunk at the duck camp with my buddies, always. Before every hunt as well, usually with a bottle of Sweet Lucy.

No. I am not religious and do not pray.

No, I do not judge people for something so stupid as drinking. Although I'll admit walking up on it when I was waiting tables was always awkward as hell. Do I set down what they asked for? Do I walk away with it still in my hand and bring it back later?

It was especially confusing when it was an entire table's food. I'm bringing a massive tray of piping hot food and they're praying over the table, and I'm standing there like "Uhh...?"

No. I'll bow my head if someone else wants to, but really that's only so I can avoid having a conversation about it afterwards. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and I try to respect that.

Yeah, I'll always bow my head if I'm in the company of others who are praying. Mostly because it's safe, and I always associated deliberately making it known you don't believe with "new atheists".

And hey, even if I'm talking to no one in particular, I'm still grateful for what I have.

I'd never just place it in front of them while praying. Seems rude to do that. I don't mind waiting at all; it's not unfamiliar to me. Raised Catholic, and then we switched to Baptist when I was in 7th grade, so I'm familiar with everything from the quick "bless us oh lord" to the 10-minute from-the-heart prayers

I would think most servers would just take it upon themselves to hang on a second. I doubt it's much of a deal in real life.

Yeah, in 3 years waiting tables, it happened maybe 4 times total.. and only once was with actual food in hand.

People generally pray after the food is delivered or before it's coming out.

I figured that's usually the case.
