I don’t. If I’m on my own I definitely rather order up front and fill my own drink. I’m a cheapo and don’t tip unless it’s warranted.

If out with family or friends that’s different.

Yes, in general, I enjoy the experience of being out.

When do you consider it to be warranted?

Otherwise why go?

Yes, serve me. I hate the counter-order model.

When I'm out of town for work I try to make sure I find places with a bar I can sit at and eat. I don't like sitting at a table or booth and having a server wait on just me. It's weird.

When I was young, yes. Not so much now. I dread the idea of going to a restaurant and strike up a fake conversation so the waiter can bring me my food.

Yes. As long they are not intrusive. They can ask if you need anything with just eye contact and being available. Don’t need 10 interruptions while we are talking.

I mean, I don’t mind it.

If I’m alone I sit at the bar

ETA: I’m not a big fan of counter service, though it’s fine for a quick lunch

Agree with that, plus bar service is sometimes best in the house.

Speaking of, I'm about to hit a Ruth's Chris bar for just that purpose.

Yes, I like people to bring me stuff. As others have said, if I am alone I'll sit at the bar.

I’ve never thought of it, but I suppose I don’t much like anyone doing anything for me.
The idea of a butler at a nice all inclusive is cringy to me.

Went to tj ribs for a late lunch…food was good service was horrible for an empty resturant….salad came out 10 minutes after my ribs….
In general food service has been horrible since the pandemic

Nope. I like to go to restaurants and grab a table. Then go get my water, napkins and utensils. Then I mosey on back to the kitchen and cook my own food and bring it out. Refill my drinks. Pretty much everything I would do when I eat at home.

Except I go to a restaurant.

Nope. Rather a quick service restaurant where you order at a counter or bar seating if at a restaurant.

I don’t just because it’s awkward and feels like a very judgy forced relationship that you just want to get out of as quick as possible. In Italy it’s totally different. You can have the table as long as you want and they aren’t ever around unless you need something

Then why not just order to go?

If I’m on the road by myself I’ll eat dinner at the bar. But if I’m by myself at lunch, I’ll normally sit at a table.

Pretty much depends on the occasion but 90% of the time I would be fine with or even prefer self service over being waited on, the latter being for special occasions, larger parties, or higher end restaurants.

Definitely, I wish McDonalds would seat me and bring my #3 combo and I’d gladly tip 20%.

Sitting at the bar is the best, especially when its just me and maybe my wife (no pics).

I think the table experience is more enjoyable when you have three or really four people or more and you can have a conversation and more than just a meal. Good service is certainly appreciated but I'm not there to be served as a primary purpose, i'm there to converse and enjoy friends and family with some good food and drink.
