Apparently, Disney realized the error of its ways and removed the video.

why does anyone purposely leave that little shell on the tail in a dish that is eaten with a spoon (or even a fork)? Pet peeve of mine. Shell that whole damn shrimp!

Not just that, but they cook that shrimp forever.

I think it's funny that they removed the video.

They really messed this up. Not only is the recipe ridiculous, but the person making it is white. It's supposed to be Tiana's Gumbo, and she was black. Tiana is the main character in the Princess and the Frog, Disney's animated movie set in New orleans.

The dish likely derived its name from either a word from a Bantu language for okra (ki ngombo) or the Choctaw word for filé (kombo).

Just because that's the derivation of the word does not mean that okra=gumbo. Do you call a jar of pickled okra, a jar of pickled gumbo?

Uh, yes it does. At least to lots of people in the world.

But to Southerners, which this thread is about, okra does not equal gumbo. If I make tomato and okra soup, is that gumbo? If i eat a jar of pickled okra, is that a jar of gumbo?

I know the derivation of the word. You know what i'm talking about, you're just being a contrarian.

What's the difference between a tomato and okra soup and a tomato and okra gumbo? Especially if I make a slurry with cornstarch and thicken up the soup to the thickness of a gumbo and then add Kitchen bouquet to achieve the color I want?

You can't have a Caesar salad with ranch dressing.

If you have a "Gumbo" without okra...it's a STEW...PERIOD. (Unless you add file')

Really isn't much different than that Pho thread on the OT.

This is more of an abomination to gumbo than what that white dude did to Pho
