Any status on Pronias? Are they ever coming back? Would be a huge loss.

I drive by it everyday. It looks fine outside but I have no idea how it looks inside. The sign is still down in the parking lot.

I heard they're planning on reopening though.

Better Cajun food in Lake Charles. That’s because Nola is Creole. There’s only a few Cajun cooks in Nola.

Isaac Toups
Paul Prudomme was I think

I bet it’s homemade. It’s sweet and soft.

But don’t expect a huge sandwich like Central. I can easily eat a whole

Then why don’t you ever hear about anyone going there for the food? The only people going there are plant baws chasing money from the expansions. I would know because I did it myself. I’ve also been to some podunk arse towns all over the country for work. LC is one of the shittiest places I’ve had to go.

like i said earlier. LC has a certain reputation and threads like this show that a lot of ignorance is still out there

however, on the flip side, the fact that our 2 most "destination" food places are steamboat bills and darrells is pretty reflective of LC. neither are gourmet by any standards but what they do, they're really good at. not every city has the culture or financing to make the high-end their most beloved spots, but that doesn't mean that you don't have solid "nice" restaurants

and in that list earlier i totally forgot cousins, mazens, and calla. 121 and pujo are not "new" like i was saying, but they're very good as well for a nice place.

then there are a ton of medium-level places that are really good for that tier like nina ps, chastains, luna, pat's of henderson, macfarlanes, leonards, mama ritas, the kitchen, cottens, lagunas, cancun, seafood palace, botsky's, rickenjacks, etc.

They are not good at what they do. I’m surprised by the lack of restaurants that served boiled crawfish in lake Charles. There’s a drive thru on every corner though.

They are a very good family. They have to demo the whole building so it'll be a while before they are back up and running.

Their fillet is pretty damn good. I don't eat there a lot but when I do that is always my go-to.

Around here most people prefer to take it home I guess. You are right, the stands out number the restaurants that serve it by a lot. Off the top of my head I can think of Steamboat Bills, Seafood Palace, and Mr. Bills. Hell, Country Club Road alone has more stands than that.

No doubt they make a lot of money but it’s more due to lake of competition than anything else. Maybe I’ll open one over there

That brings me back haha. I have some great memories of going to the original on Oak Park Blvd. I remember they had a video poker area.

I don't remember that but maybe you're talking about Mr. D's? It was on Common street after Cock of the Walk left town. That place was awesome. We'd go there at least once a week.

Oh crap, I meant Mr. Bill's (not to be confused with Steamboat Bills). I forgot about Mr D's. I remember getting BBQ'd crabs there and waiting for an eternity, but they were awesome.

For Pat's, I was referring to Pat's of Henderson. Pat O'Carrols was great too.

That reminds me of Schilleleys (spelling) on Prien for some reason. I forgot about that place.

Steamboat Bills has a couple of things that they do well

Boiled seafood.
Potatoes
Pistollettes

We went to pujo st last time I was in town and it’s fantastic. Great meal.

Better than anything Baton Rouge has

Chimes is better.

Darrell's does have very good bread. Chimes poboy bread is the closest I can think of being soft and flakey. I'll take Chimes Roast Beef with gravy or the BBQ Shrimp Poboy over anything from Darrell's.

When I lived in LC, someone told me that Darrell started selling poboys as a front for his bookie operation. I wonder if that's true.

Yes that would be correct, mainly at the original location. Actually it was just a local dive bar before ever selling sandwiches.
