Yeah I like to stop at the one in Jennings if I am driving to BR or New Orleans from Baton Rouge. In and out and a fine sandwich.

The people digging on Darrell’s are all New Orleanians. They get uppity about someone having something better.

I agree with that statement..
New orleans has good food but so do other cities....for some reason they can"t seem to accept that fact...

OKAY. Maybe I should have said "best Sandwich" because some say it doesn't fit the definition of a "poboy". So sorry for offending anyone from New Orleans. I have had many good poboys with fried (insert seafood) in them. This poboy or sandwich, whatever you want to call it was damn good and ranks very very high on my list.

LOL, I am not offended. Seems like people liking this sandwich are getting bent out of shape if anyone dares say something negative.

If you enjoy it, great. I have had it because of the hype and it's just a slight bump from a subway to me.

But, y'all can continue to insult those who don't agree.

Not from New Orleans. Lived in LC for the past 5 years until Laura came and fortunately got me out of that shite hole.

Lake Charles lacks good local cuisine period. They have some restaurants that are decent at best, however Luna's Dragon Tuna could probably make it anywhere.

Simply put LC is not Louisiana, it's fricking East Texas,

I actually sort of dig the fact that you can find a place churning out its own sort of sandwiches in Louisiana and that is happy to be doing something with them completely different from a New Orleans style poboy. There's too many other places just doing bad riffs on those.

ETA, Although, I'm not sure I'm willing to say Darrell's sandwiches are better than a well made New Orleans poboy.

It's just lunch meat with mayo

Most sandwiches are and I’m pretty sure you ordered it wrong what you have to do is spend all day on Big Lake catching trout and flounder
(Oops forgot you have no idea what that is)
Then order like this
Extra sauce / jalapeño mayo and shrimp

Better than anything Baton Rouge has

It's a shame Lafayette and Lake Charles have better po boy places than Baton Rouge

this is just wrong

when i was a kid? yeah it was right, but there are all sorts of local, non-chain options up to french fine dining (la truffe sauvage). there has been an explosion of good, local places the pat few years. the villa, 1910, mazens, etc. then the casinos have some good (and bad) chains. Ember and V/A are really good

now it's obviously no Nola or even Lafayette, but it blows BR/Shreveport out of the water per capita

I'd add Cousins to that list as well if George didn't get me shitfaced every time I walked in there

I haven't spent much time in Shreveport, but I'd venture to say you are very correct there.

I'm not sure how the 5 places you've named, plus 1 if you add Cousins blows BR out of the water. Have you driven around BR? There are multiple local eateries on every street corner. Hell the gas station food in BR is better than the rice and gravy every restaurant in LC serves.

I love it when I find someone who is passionate about LC on here. Simple minded folks in a simple minded town.

why are you comparing BR to Shreveport? BR is the fast food destination hotspot in la.

All of your posts just scream "butthurt."

Your life won't change at all if people think LC has a decent selection of restaurants. It is ok.
