Thanks for the reqs. He had a few at the Meddlesome Moth, and is headed for the Nodding Donkey. He said 2 gay dudes just bought him 2 beers at MM.

Nodding Donkey is a good place. He will enjoy. Tell him to start off with a Donkey Punch.

Pass on Pecan Lodge and just gorge on BBQ in Austin.

Every white girl I know from Garland likes black guys, whatever that means.

He enjoyed himself. He wasn't expecting a it to be rocking on Monday night. He went there because of the tap list. He wanted Hop Delusion and Community Mosaic IPA.

Only ones of that list I've tried are Cane Rosso and Boulevardier. Both were awesome.

I love Manny's in Uptown for Tex Mex as well as Pepe and Mitos in Deep Ellum.

Deep Sushi is the best sushi that's moderately priced, I've found.

Kenny's Woodfire in Addison is fantastic.

Villa O for brunch is solid and you can't beat $10 bottomless

And as far as cocktail bars are concerned - it's tough to beat Parliament on Allen street in Uptown.

One of them mentioned going to the lodge and at that point I had to bow out and walk home .

My favorites are not the absolute best quality food but consider value and atmosphere.

Sushi- Teppo.....small, intimate place owned by a japanese and staffed by the same. Really good sushi/sashimi and yakitori (sp) grill. Not nearly as expensive as Uchi.....and I can walk to Teppo.

Pizza- Louie's....great dive bar. Waukegan style thin crust pizza.....Louie was from Waukegan....he passed away a couple of years ago but his brother, mom and his kids still run Louie's. And when I walk in the bartenders will pull my beers (Sierra Nevada PA...best they have) out of the cooler without me asking. We generally sit at the bar and eat if its juts my wife and I. Service at the tables can be less than stellar but that's part of the charm.

Note: I dislike Cane Rosso. I have eaten there several times and its always what we call "Dallas Bland". But "Dallas Bland" is what sells in Dallas. I think it's all the mid westerners and oklahomans and spawns of such that live here.

Mediterranean: Sevan G&Gs- Owned by a turkish family, Its BYOB which is great, the flavors of everything are spot on....not Shaya good but really good. My only complaint is the pitas, which are super thin, can be dried out. If you get fresh ones they are decent.

Mexican: My goto place now is E-Bar....I think the guy that owns it used to manage Manny's. My favorite mexican is Mia's but it gets crowded and I have to drive and valet there.

Seafood- Half Shells in Snider Plaza- Its part of a chain....sorta....the guy that started Half Shells sold out to a investment group that franchised out the concept under the name Fish City Grills. But the original owner kept control of the Snider Plaza location even though its owned by the investment group.

Pub Grub- Libertine....although they are not as good as they were 10-12 years ago. Maybe I just have "good ol' days" syndrome when it comes to them. Other nominees would be Goodfriend, Lee Harvey's and Ten Bells Tavern...who's days are numbered as the Oak Cliff tear down gentrification gains steam. They are scheduled to be bulldozed soon for a "Frisco special" development.

Wayward Son- New place doing the local sourced concept.

Nova- Good basic gastro-pub fare. More of a neighborhood type place.

Small Brewpub- Really good food....kind of pricey for such a casual atmosphere but the chef was nominated for a James Beard this past year.

Local- In deep ellum....it flies under the radar since its been around a long time. Its not the hot, new thing anymore.

The Grape- same as Local....been around forever but still good.

Anglo Tacos: Tough to beat Torchy's....the one by SMU....I have eaten at the one in casa linda and it was awful. The SMU location is close to the original in quality. I really don't get the love for Velvet Taco or Rusty Tacos. Again the allure of "The Dallas Bland" is my only explanation.

Real Tacos- El Come Taco and/or Taqueria El Si Hay.

One I hadn't mentioned is Eureka. Tried it a few weeks ago and really in enjoyed it. Plenty of beer/wine on tap and it is also a "whiskey bar" so great selection there. It's in West Village.

Rusty's actually sold out to Buffalo Wild Wings last year and rebranded to "R Tacos". My wife is a fan, but I agree it's really not anything special. I love torchy's and she's not a huge fan though, so clearly we are looking for different things in our Anglo Tacos.

We both agree that El Come makes the best tacos we've ever had though. Their tortas aren't bad either and the churros with the chocolate sauce are to die for, and I'm not even a desserts guy.
