Are they expected to start falling soon? I seem to remember them dropping slightly in past years as Easter approaches.

The wife and I usually split 10# for dinner some nights but I's hate to spend >$50 for a quick dinner at home.

Pretty sure you can find them for less than $5 a pound now. Next week prices will jump back up and then start dropping a lot after Easter.

Crawfish prices generally don't start to fall much until after Easter.

Actually, they seem to go up slightly most years during Easter week for that last little cash grab.

That’s more of a supply / demand thing. Everyone has Easter crawfish boils.

Oh, I understand that is the highest selling weekend of the year for most businesses-----sooo, let's raise the price even though we'll sell out all of our inventory=====last cash grab.

Price drops week before Easter week. Most people have boils next weekend so typically demand goes down the week prior. Next week prices will jump again. - Per Schaefers, Bevi, and Seithers who were interviewed about this just this week.

Supply and demand folks. This isn't hard to figure out.

They usually don't start falling until after Easter.

eta: Some places are cheaper. Roberts grocery store has boiled for $3/lb I think.

Just got off the phone with Bevi and they are selling sacks at $2.45 a lb. cash and a bit more if debit or check.

Schaefer's in Bucktown is $2.35 a lb. live if paying cash and they will add to your order if you want a specific amount for your boil-----say, 50 lbs. They'll give you a 40 lb. sack and 10 lbs. in a box or other container.

Don’t expect the price drop that we used to see. Them Texans are paying a premium for as much crawfish as they can get their hands on.

So you’re saying that they will have NO problem selling the crawfish. But it’s unthinkable to think they’d raise the price? The only time prices fall is when you have trouble getting rid of crawfish. Sooooo supply and demand

Didn't say it was unthinkable they'd raise the price. It is definite they'd raise it due to people willing to pay whatever they charge to have them for the Easter weekend.

This in my opinion is a form of price gouging. Kind of like when HD was selling their motorcycles 6 months in advance of actually having them in the showroom, and at MSRP+ pricing.

Get the Crawfish app for your phone. It updates prices each Friday for live and boiled. Works pretty well around here.
