Is this an issue and how do I get it off? No imperfections to touch but visibly off putting.

Think it's done. You know what they say, once you go black...

Seriously though. Is there no getting it off?

A scouring pad (brillo?). I had that happen a long time ago with a new burner. On some burners there's a little "dial" with 4 holes in it. You can adjust it to regulate how much oxygen is pulled into the flame. Too much (or is it too little? lol) will cause the flame to impart the black soot on the bottom of the pot. Play with that setting to get a clean-burning flame and you shouldn't have that problem again.

Sorry I should have clarified. This is on the inside of the pot and basket

Did it turn black during cooking or during storage? If you stored it with a dissimilar metal touching it, that could cause it to turn black.

It was during storage process.

It was stored on top of the stand.

Did you put it up wet or even damp? That'll cause it to discolor.

You can scrub the shite out of the pot to clean it. Cleaning the basket is a bitch.

That's strange. I store mine on top of the burner all the time.

I got no remedy.

Is it aluminum? Then it's just a result of a chemical reaction called oxidation. Try using Comet, or Bar Keepers Friend and a green scrubbing pad!

It's not oxidation. It's atomic hydrogen that gets into the metallic structure of the aluminum. Once it gets inside, it bonds with other hydrogen atoms and forms molecular hydrogen (2 hydrogen atoms).

Galvanic corrosion, I think.

A common example of galvanic corrosion is rusting

Whatever it is really doesn't matter. You are boiling crawfish. You are then peeling them and eating. Who cares what color the pot is.

If you didn't get all the salt off the pot, that would enhance the corrosion potential.
