Craft Beer drinkers - what would you do to change the industry?

Craft beer is still strong and thankfully will be here to stay. That said, I'm sure some of you noticed some significant changes throughout the years (Green Flash/Alpine to close, InBev acquiring Elysian, Devil's Backbone, Wicked Weed etc).

What suggestions would you offer to change and/or better the industry? It can anything. It can as big as free range distribution or as small as no more ____ (insert hated beer style) . Whatever you deem fit.

I'd blow up the three-tier system.

And locally revise the UDC to allow for breweries in zones other than industrial.

Successful operations are always going to get acquired by bigger fish, I cried when Ballast Point got gobbled up but the quality seems to still be there (so far).

If your retail production is at ????? or below, you can sell directly to retailers, no distributor.

1) Eliminate 3 tier system
2) Make growlers cheaper in LA

For Brewers, bar and brewery owners to not talk politics on social media.

i think at a minimum, nano, and micro breweries should be able to self distribute.

I think a 3 tiers system could be helpful to where the big guys could squeeze out smaller breweries by threatening to not supply bars to not serve other beers.

Agreed.

Exactly. And it's beneficial to breweries who want to self distribute but are growing too big to do so. The logistics of distributing are just insane. There's a company out of Houston called mexcor and the sales guys deliver a lot of their products. They only make it every couple weeks or so. I'd hate that.

On site prices are ridiculous if I'm being honest. Its stupid that I pay $5-10 per beer at the brewery, but then I can walk across the street to the gas station and buy a sixer for $10-12.

This. Fewer regulations. Everyone seems to think they have ideas that would improve things. I think you just cut the regulations and stand back and watch.

In theory. A lot of the small guys would still depend on someone for distribution. You can't just put in a national or even regional distribution network overnight.

The big boys would absolutely run shite if they could. Hell, they already do as much as they can through the distributor now.

1) Allow for more direct shipping to consumer. I can have cases of wine easily delivered to my house/office, but not so much with beer. Whether it is direct from a brewery (would be awesome) or through a distributor. I feel like technology can handle any issues with age verification, etc.

2) More education. So many breweries, so many styles, etc. It's easy to get lost and confused.

If you're in Houston, you can't get any imported wine shipped to you. Thanks blue law Texas.
