Cookie cake is not as good as I remember it

Early 90s birthday parties that had a cookie cake were GOAT. Nothing better than a square slice of cookie cake with the vanilla and chocolate frosting when you’re a sugar-hyped 10 year old.
My wife wanted a small one for her birthday and I obliged, of course. We hadn’t had one in years, if not decades.
The cookie portion is just not what I remembered. Very thin and kind of oily. It tastes okay but it’s so sweet that after a few bites I was done. I just remembered the actual cookie part of the cake being better.
Bought it from from Great American Cookie Company, if that makes any difference. Expensive for what it is. Like $38 for the smallest one.
Also wife was happy so that’s all that really matters.

Which location did you purchase from? Great American cookie cake has been my staple b-day cake for years and I absolutely love them. Always put a few pieces in the fridge to get cold and indulge for breakfast.

Juban location.
They had them stacked up for people to pickup so they’re certainly not hurting for business. Also you can now get it in various cookie flavors, which is interesting

I've made them myself and they come out better. Those store bought ones have some sort of after taste.
Throw some parchment paper down on the counter. Get a big roll of cookie dough. Roll it out with a rolling pin. Put on a pizza pan and bake. Cheaper and better.

They are always disappointing. Gummy overly sugary cookie glop and cheap icing.

I’ve always grabbed from the Southland Mall location in Houma. Never been disappointed; now that could be bc not many people frequent that mall so they can focus on how to properly make the cakes

A Duncan Hines box cake is better than that shite.

If I’m going to splurge calories on something sugary cookie cake doesn’t even make the list. Chips Ahoy are much better.

Chips Ahoy…those are arguably the worst store brand cookies. Weird flavor that doesn’t take like a cookie along with this unsatisfactory chewiness to them.

The icing they use on those cookie cakes is the absolute worst.

Sam's does a double decker cookie cake for around $20- Great buy for the money.

What's wrong with Crisco and powdered sugar?

That was my point. The worst mass manufactured cookie is >> mall cookie cakes.
And chewy? Who would by anything other than original? Salty? Yes. Not chewy.

Still love a great American cookie cake.
The icing always gets scraped off though

There is a lot of variance in them. The recent ones I've had have been cooked way too long. You get that one that is still questionably just dough.
