I'm of the school of thinking that yomama's (when it was open) was much better than port of call.
it is open

ETA: Tried cowbell again on Saturday. Again, I was not impressed.

I like all types of burgers and Company is a pretty damn good burger. The style burger you get at Port O Call is the type I like to order rare, as opposed to the thin kind. I wouldn't from Port O Call though, just a bit too grimy of a place.

I haven't had Cowbell, but Company Burger is my current favorite. It has perfect burger balance. High Hat's burger is unbelievably delicious, but it is overwhelming. Port of Call is a good burger and a fun place, but a pain in the arse.

I'm eating a burger poboy from Sammy's right now. It's turrible. Very dry.

But I do love their roast beef.

I think you and I are the only ones that don't think Cowbell's burgers are all that.

a burger poboy

Am I the only one who hates this concept?

There's something about the bread that just doesn't work at all for a burger to me. And I generally love most other types of poboys.

And yes Company is expensive, but you are paying for good quality.

$15 for a "lunch burger"? The quality isn't worth that.

They are obviously exploiting the fact that the place has become all the rage. Prices have gradually risen since they opened.

$2 for a fricking canned drink

First time I had it, it was overcooked and bland and small.

This past saturday I had it and ordered it medium rare and it was mooing at me. and again, bland and small.

It just doesn't impress me at all.

I don't complain at restaurants unless they get my order completely wrong. Bad preparation does not mean wrong.

That would be bad preparation.

Either way, was still bland and relatively small.

The Hi Hat burger is $12 but it comes with a side (Sweet potato salad FTW) so it's about the same, but you tip extra because its table service. I prefer hi-hat but usually just don't feel like going there and sitting down, especially if I'm work-dirty.

But anyone who has not tried Hi-Hat is doing themselves a disservice. They have a lot of great things on the menu and the Satsuma pie is to die for.

I like Ancora a lot too. But I find myself paying $30 for lunch when I go there(Hi Hat and Ancora) as opposed to 15-17 at Company.

The last time I went to Port of Call a roach crawled out of the burger the guy next to me was eating. Literally crawled out between the meat and bun. The guy kept eating. To be fair, it was a small roach. And you know what, that isn't the annoying thing about POC. I just can't understand how someone could wait in line for an hour to eat a burger. Same goes for the other places in town that generate lines, except Galatoire's.

If I'm gonna go to port of call...I'm gonna walk down the street to Snug Harbor and get the exact same burger in a cleaner environment.
