It's the whole experience. If you haven't been before it's definitely worth it. Food is very solid.

Basically this, and if it were any other city I'd probably tell you not to bother. This wouldn't play in Columbus Ohio or Atlanta Georgia.

But in NOLA? Love it every time.

Now they have a little coffee shop next door that sells hats, aprons, gifty stuff. I bought the blue ballcap and love it.

I don't know about now.

Went twice before Katrina, and it was a very good price for what you were getting.

It is one of my favorites, especially for a special occasion. The only bargain you will find there is during Thursday and Friday lunch where they have specials including $0.25 martinis.

9 on the heavenly meter
7 on the value meter.

I will be there on Lundi Gras.

I would dare say it may be the best restaurant in NOLA. It has everything you could want. great wines, great ambiance, impeccable service, and fantastic food. I'm sure there will be some haters, but I stand by this 100%

... Commander's will always be my top restaurant ...

One time the entire staff created a double "welcome to our restaurant " line as we were being seated. I met every chef and all wait staff, incredible.

I’d say 8-9 on value for the entire experience. We’ve been several times both before and after Katrina. Service is always excellent and some of the best true ‘service” I’ve ever had. The food is great, not the best I’ve ever had, but very good. Definitely worth a visit if you have never been.

That's open to interpretation - light lunch with no booze could be $60-100. Average dinner more like $150-200 depending on booze and tip. It's not hard to imagine a $300+ meal there if you have a few drinks in you upon arrival and lack self control.

The nice thing about CP and a few other traditional spots, you can kind of choose your path and enjoy the history of the place without splashing out too hard. Just remember they do expect men to wear a jacket. It is not a "come as you are" place. A lot of people are there to celebrate something special or a special trip to NOLA, so meeting the dress code is important to them.

"Value" is tricky because in terms of food taste relative to cost, you can find very similar in many of the city's restaurants for slightly less money.

What you get at Commander's is the quintessential New Orleans dining experience with the absolute best service, ambience, and great history.
Overall is it the best restaurant int he city.

The atmosphere and overall experience is awesome, I agree.

But if judging strictly food, my unprofessional preference would be Mr. B’s.

We went for lunch a few years ago the week before Mardi Gras (dressed appropriately) and this did not seem to be the vibe at all. Jeans and polo shirts were abundant and I was confused because everyone always says the above that I quoted.

Its ok to be slightly over dressed, just because tourist or other arse hats decide to show up in a polo & jeans doesn't mean you should when you already know whats appropriate.
