I wouldn't mind trying the one you picture, but the ones they have available aren't going to be my thing. I'll shop them next time I'm in LA though.
What other roasters do people order from? I'm really tired of just about everything in stores here, and my favorite ones are never in stock anymore.

No surprise considering all their money goes into paying people to hold guns and wear their gear. It's a gimmick at best.

Have been pulling the best shots of my life with this blend

Why do you always have to be a dick? Man just wants to drink some good coffee.

French Truck's summer buzz is my favorite coffee that's not Ethiopian. I truly enjoy a fruity fresh Ethiopian coffee.
A friend of mine is a co-owner of Ascension Roasters, formerly Cafeciteaux, and he's a coffee nut. Makes really good stuff.

Is it just me or are blends harder to dial in than single origin coffees? I’m always inconsistent on the blends.

just coincidentally, that is all ive ever really used. Though I have not been doing this but a year and a half or so

Looks like the Turin Legato version 2.0 has launched.
Same price as the original. Just have to wait for availability. Espresso Outlet
I’m slightly annoyed, but I’ve really enjoyed my version 1.0 I got in March.

Buddy sent me some Perc Up recently and really enjoyed that bag.
Think I'm fully converted to the La Belle Noir bandwagon from Big River as my go to bag now

This has been my regular brand. I live near the place they roast the beans and it has a cafe I’ve visited to remind myself what it was supposed to taste like as I was dialing it in

Bump.
Update on my espresso journey. Had kind of gotten away from chasing the perfect shot the last few months. Went ahead and got a tankless RO filter + remineralization filter installed. Water TDS is now reading < 50 which is ideal for espresso. Last week, I felt my shot consistency with the IMS 18g basket was bad, so I ordered a 20g VST basket. Lastly, got inspired by a Hoon’s Coffee YouTube video comparing shots from a Lelit Bianca and a Turin Legato and I ordered an OPV for my Legato. Blind basket shows pressure right around 10-11, so should be an ideal 9 at the puck now. Shot this morning was solid 20 in / 50 out around 55 seconds. Gonna grind slightly coarser and adjust the water debit up to 6 ml/s from the 4 ml/s I had it at. Hoping to start dialing in some great shots.

Seems long? I do 20g and 40-45 out in 30 seconds. I do hit about 11 pressure before it settles down to 9.

I found shots to be less sour when I ran around 1:3 ratio vs 1:2. Was under extracting on the lower ratio. Thinking with the bigger basket and OPV I’ll be able to run a 1:2 that tastes better.

Where did you get the OPV? Was it easy to install?
Posted on 10/20/24 at 4:03 pm to BigPerm30
Got it from espresso outlet for $40 or so. FYI, it will void your warranty. There are others you can by that will work that are cheaper. Expobar and Fluidotech I think. Install is pretty easy I think. Just need a screw driver, adjustable wrench, and a drill to drill a whole in the OPV return line spigot.

Bump.
Turin Sonata on sale for $169, for someone getting into espresso but not planning on ever getting hardcore is this an amazing buy at that price? I like to cook, have brewed beer in the past, etc. so I don't want to underbuy and wish I went bigger. But I also don't know if I'll ever want to put the extra effort into doing anything more than just grinding good beans and making espresso.
I guess my question, is it worth going $479 for the Turin Legato V2?
What's a solid grinder to get? I see most have the TurinDF64 on here so that must be the go to? Assuming the DF40 will be something most would want to upgrade from?

That's a very inviting price. From what I can gather from the specs on the Espresso Outlet website, the Sonata has an aluminum boiler and the Legato has a stainless steel boiler. Without knowing anything else about them (I've never laid hands on either), my preference would be to keep the internals stainless.
I know we have some Legato owners who have posted on this board. They may be able to weigh in on what they like and don't like about the Legato. Even at $479, it's a lot of machine for the money.
As for whether it's a good idea to get an espresso machine at all, IMHO, it is. All we make now are espresso drinks.
And remember, whether you spend $169 or $2,500, the only really expensive cup is the first cup. The second cup costs half as much. The price cuts in half again at the 4th cup. Before you know it your per cup cost is lower than going to a coffee shop. And by then you will understand that coffee shops all make crappy coffee anyway.
