Christmas shopping has apparently started. We are looking for a new coffee machine in $300-$400 range. We’re not crazy about the capachinos and expressos and stuff, we just like black coffee. But at the same time, it’s just two of us in the house so we only need 8 ounce cups at a time (don’t need a full pot). Figured this was a good place to come. Recommendations appreciated.

I’ve had this for several years now and love it.

My only recommendation is to get a coffee maker that does not require a paper filter. You lose so much flavor and oils with a paper filter.

Personally I have a $80 ninja carafe with the mesh filter and it's been excellent.

I bought that model this year and really like it. Only issue is that it uses a lot of grounds. It does a great job of converting that excess into quality coffee and I like the size/quality options.

Have to agree that our ninja is really good and quick and convenient. In the morning you want a 1-2-3 east deal and this is it. Also uses about 1/2 the coffee our Mr Coffee used to make a decent pot AND will make a 4 cup pot that is really good. Haven’t tried the one cup method yet. And well below your budget.

OXO. It brews coffee at the perfect temperature and don't listen to the paper argument. Oils can introduce bitterness and other off putting flavors. Do yourself a favor and get a burr grinder while you're at it and grind your beans prior to every brew. Thank me later.

Second the oxo, the flavor it puts out is great. Something about the perfect temp and how it does the right flow or whatever to get the water through there at the right pace.

The one we have just has a #4 cone size, it came with a mesh filter that I use sometimes, most times I use paper. I brew it strong, so with the mesh it's intense. Sometimes I need that, sometimes not.

Carafe is stainless and hard to get in there and clean, there isn't a hot plate, so if you like to brew a big pot and get refills, might not be for you or you'll need to just make coffee multiple times. I just make it and drink it all at once.

So get the nespresso vertuoline. You get the milk frother with it and it’s great.

Team Technivorm over here.

Also, have a Baratza encore for the grinding.

We have the SMEG grinder. The whole top part of the moccamaster brew side fits under the grinder spout and you can walk away from it. Pretty slick.

For just putting in a pod and pushing a button, you can’t beat Nespresso coffee
