They had an Asian flair last year. Someone else put fried cracklings on top.

Are the judges provided any guidance as far as judging a Jambalaya comp or is it just whatever they like for whatever reason ?

Upon review of this band's facebook photos....I did not picture you as any of these people.

Also, to keep with the thread topic, wish I could cook in the contest. Looks interesting. Good luck to those participating.

No pics...but check out WAFB News at 6 and 10...they were out there.

I will leave it to someone who attended last year to talk about the turn out.

Imo...being in its 2nd year...it wasn't bad. It will only grow. The band was great. And it was for a great cause.

Jody great to meet you and thanks for cooking!

Not 100% sure on the winners. Someone else may chime in with more info. I never left the beer tent. I did hear something about beef bacon in the winners pot. Laignnape dish went to a group with boudin eggrolls. Peoples choice went to last years judges winner with a traditional chicken and sausage.

Winners made a “beef bacon and pork sausage Jambalaya”.. didnt get to taste it but saw a picture and looked like parboiled rice...meh.

Was a fun event and will do it again next year

Thanks gmrkr5. We try our best for a bunch of dopes who are just trying to help others the best way we know how...throwing a large party.

Mind giving us some feedback? Jodyplauche I know you were out there as well. Any feedback?

Get some real jambalaya judges(JFA), I get its for a great cause and all but "beef, bacon, and pork" jambo won the judges vote??? You've got to factor in cost of entry beyond just entry fee...it's probably 300-350 per team and if you've got serious jambo cooks out there losing to beef bacon and pork jambalayas then word will get around and it won't grow any.

I see your point of view and will pass it on. The option to get creative and branch out may intrigue some and not others. Probably a double edged sword. To me, if I have 23 teams all cooking the same chicken and sausage, except for the real crappy ones, there probably isn't much difference. However, a traditional chicken and sausage won judges vote last year and same team won crowd favorite this year

Why not have different categories - traditional jambalaya & “ open “ jambalaya?
