I would just say buy a red and a white burgundy.

If you have $500 and going to beach for 9 nights, might I suggest you bring more than 5 bottles?

Ditch the big box stores, make a trip to Swirl, Keife or Independent Caveau in New Orleans. Stock up on old world offerings from small producers. Profit

I would suggest the following:

1. Nickel & Nickel Branding Iron Cabernet - $125
2. Faust Cabernet (made by Quintessa) - $60
3. Joseph Phelps Pinot Noir - Sonoma Coast - Pastorale Vineyard $85
4. Red Schooner Voyage 9 Malbec (made by the Wagner family that makes Caymus) - about $55 (can be bought for less if you look around)
5. Peter Michael Ma Belle Fille Chardonnay - about $135. This will be hard to find, but the best chardonnay you will ever taste. If you can't find it, try Far Niente Napa Valley Chardonnay - about $75.

Total $460 if you find the Peter Michael or $400 if you have to substitute it with Far Niente. If you have only spent $400, spend the remaining $100 on 2 bottles of Darioush Caravan (about $50 per bottle). That is a cabernet, so you won't have a chardonnay. If you want to have a chardonnay instead, look for Lewis Cellars Reserve Chardonnay and you could buy 2 bottles of it (at $75 per bottle) and still be under $500. It may be hard to find as well. You need access to a good wine store for some of these.

I tried to get you a great cabernet, malbec, chardonnay and pinot noir, so you can satisfy all tastes.

Also, I tried to stay with all California wines, but you can certainly look for Bourdeaux's and Burgundy region wines if you want to. If you are looking for French wines, let me know and I can recommend some of those as well.

Jarvis is phenomenal wine. A must tour vineyard if you go. Lake William is in my top 5. Their Petit Verdot is unmatched.

Anything Del Dotto Howell Mountain is top shelf. I’d put Machine Head and Nickel and Nickel there as well. Darioush Signature Cab would also be on my list
