I like Austin Hope but a lot of traditionalists don't.

Same reason they don't like Wagner wines or many of the big, bold, overripe, etc. wines coming out of CA that lack good structure or complexity. The typical complaint is that many wine producers cover up winemaking flaws with that "crowd pleaser" bold cali red style (fruitbombs), although I don't think AH is in that category. I think it's well made and a "good" wine for what is, but it's true that it's modern style. I'm a fan of more traditional cabs in a restrained style, but I like AH within the category just fine.
This board loves Wagner and similar wines, and is pretty reflective of the wine drinking public I think. And the offerings of Cali wineries reflect that, it's now the predominate style.

This guy can load up on just about any premium wine and people are suggesting to go with the $75 version of Welch's grape juice.
If he prefers Cali he should do something more fun like buy all the different Ridge Zins which are grade A in quality and half the price.

yes, I appreciate the input nonetheless I do love Napa Cabs, but probably 50% of my weekly bottles are old world. I love Spanish wine and am also a sucker for chateauneuf du pape.

Completely disagree but that’s why they make chocolate and vanilla. Zin is great as a blending grape. Cave Blend from Del Dotto is one of my favorites, but as a daily drinker no thanks to Zin. I’ll take my smooth dry delicious “fruit bombs” from the best grape on the planet and you can have the green arrows in this thread.

Utopia Pinot Noir from Willamette should be a $75-$100 bottle.
ETA: I see you can grab one for $50 now. That’s a great wine IMO. I used to order it by the case, but it had gotten a little pricey.

Quite a few old world grapes can make a serious argument against this. Nebbiolo, Pinot Noir, Sangiovese and Chardonnay all immediately come to mind. There's a reason Barolo is called the king of wines and the wine of kings.
Cabernet Sauvignon is a fantastic grape but IMO is best in blends (Bordeaux and Super Tuscans).
