Bavettes is the best steak in the city...FACT.
Need to give them another shot. Tried it on our first visit ever here in 2015 and was beyond excited and left completely let down. Ambiance was incredible, but from the time we ordered our steaks until it arrived, I swear it was maybe, maybe 10 minutes. And the place was packed. The steak ended up being severely rare. The meal was okay, but, we felt completely rushed and like they were just trying to move us out quickly. I think we ended up sitting and being gone within 45 minutes.
Sucks because the reviews are stellar. I have to think that maybe we just caught them on a bad night.
I've also heard Swift and Sons has a great steak. We just hit up their happy hour $1 oysters a couple of weeks ago and it was incredible. I'm excited to go back and try

I’m going to get slaughtered but here it goes.
Weber Grill. Yes it is the same people. They have a Cedar Plank Salmon dish that is really really good. When I’m in Chicago I usually stay in the Schaumburg area and walk to the location there. The bartender in Schaumburg also makes a good Old Fashioned (the reason I walk). There is also a location at North Bridge that I’ve been to.

Eataly is fun to browse in, and the food is darned good too. Great place for a quick quality pasta dish and damned good gelato.

George Street Pub is good. We’ve been out on the lake for the air and water show with the owners. Food is wonderful. Cool little hidden gem.

Just an FYI that it's Au Cheval.
Also, OP, this is such a general question that you'd probably be best served just checking Yelp. Unless there are certain cuisines or areas you're most interested in.

Frontera Grill or Topolobampo for great Mexican food. Reservations well in advance required for Topo

My favorite place in the city. Even the bread they bring you to start is amazing. Great oysters, fantastic steak, great sides. Love it.

Girlfriend and I just did the Cubs gameday special with the oysters last Friday and it was awesome. The dollar oysters that night were Delaware Bay. A couple pics...
We mixed in a few other oysters from the menu

The view from our table.

Not a big fan of yelp, but started looking at some Eater articles.
I'm sure, similar to what I did when I moved to Nola, I'll create a spreadsheet for restaurants I'd like to visit at some point with cuisines, neighborhoods, price point, etc on it so I can filter by what I am looking for on any given day. As I read about new places I am interested, add them. If one closes down, erase it.

Green Street Smoked Meats in West Loop for barbecue.
Little Goat Diner (also West Loop) is delicious for breakfast/brunch.
Depending on where you're moving to/how much you want to wander, Buttermilk (in Geneva - far west suburb, and I think maybe Naperville?) also has delicious breakfast/brunch.
Adding on to Portillos - ask for the fries extra crispy (they also travel really well that way).
Enjoy your time in Chicagoland!

As you should. If i was stuck in the suburbs maybe it wouldn't be a bad option, but in the city it should never even enter the consideration set.

It used to be called the Big Ten Pub before that. Bruco and I were roommates at a place about a hundred feet away from the bar. They had a $15 all you can drink every Friday that included beer, rail drinks, and crappy pizza for about 3 hours. We used to ravage that special every week

I went to Gibson’s and got the Gibson’s cut, it was the best steak I have ever had. Also, Piquads was one of the best pizzas of my life.

Yeah we live just on the edge of Southport Corridor so when we got the happy hour special it was a Friday when we walked over. Cubs were out of town though but we had a similar view and the oysters were also the Delaware ones. Outstanding experience.

This quick line will highlight how much stupid shite is in your post:
1. My fiancé is half-Indian and half-Malaysian. She and her family love food on Devon. I’ll take that opinion over... yours.
2. You’ve had countless posts about Chicago’s lacking food. This is your first ever mention of anything Devon. You pick that up from my last call out?

As for Indian food, locals rave about the great selection on Devon. Again, not impressive in quality, though, there are lots of Indian restaurants there.

In my top three with Swift & Sons and Kinzie.
Speaking of Bavette’s, I always love popping next door to Gilt Bar for an Old Fashioned beforehand.

I was always a west side guy, so my rec's will be weighted that way.
Au Cheval - Excellent Burger, but the fried bologna sandwich might be better.
Parsons Chicken & Fish - Good food, great drinks, awesome atmosphere during the summer. The Negroni slush is fantastic.
Frontier - You can do whole animal service, which is great for birthday parties, etc. Also have various seafood boils throughout the year.
Irazu - BYOB Costa Rican place with a patio. Bring a bottle of rum, tequila, etc. and order a pitcher of various tropical fruit smoothies
Kai Zan - newer place, and I've only been once, but it was a very good Japanese omakase restaurant.
Aba - Mediterranean place and one of the most beautiful spaces I've been to.
Wasabi / Furious Spoon / Kizuki - All great Ramen spots
Tango Sur - excellent BYOB Argentinian steakhouse. The portions are huge, and not too pricey. Bring your own wine and you can get a great meal without breaking the bank.
La Pasadita - My go to dingy, 3am Mexican place. Get the burrito with only onions and cilantro, and your choice of meat, and mitigate any hangover.
The Standard - A solid sports bar and it's the LSU affiliate bar in Chicago. They have a solid brunch which is good for the occasional 11am LSU game
I could go on and on, and I'm sure there are a lot of places I'd love to tell you about that I'm forgetting.
