Playing Mr Mom today. I didn’t want to make simple spaghetti and meatballs, so I made some homemade meatballs and picked up a couple cans of Cento crushed tomatoes. Holy shite! It’s so well seasoned, it’s marinara. Doctor it up with a little fresh basil, sautéed onions and garlic, toss with some fresh pasta and the meatballs.

Crushed tomatoes are seasoned? If they are so well seasoned, then why doctor?

Other than that, I agree. Cento is a good product.

Only brand I will use when making my red gravy.

Hand crush the marzanos, add a little olive oil & sugar and it makes great pizza sauce as well.

It was actually a great mistake. I bought two cans of Cento “Chef’s Cut” tomatoes. It is seasoned with fresh basil, and other stuff. It was amazing.

Cento is solid all the way around. I always bought only the San Marzano, but recently learned their Italian Style Whole Peeled are just as good. One of the only brands that packs in sauce/herbs and not water.

Nah if he can make a good sauce, that's not basic tasks. It's not rocket science but not a basic task, either.

Speaking of Cento products, the double concentrated paste in a tube comes in handy. A squirt to a pan sauce takes dishes to a different place without being obviously “tomatoey”

You can even make a small quick pizza sauce by adding some herbs and a little water to thin it out without opening cans when you don’t need the full can.

Must have pantry item imo.

Dumping canned tomatoes and some veggies with seasoning into a pot and turning it on isn't basic?

That is not making sauce. It's part of it, but not making sauce. That's like telling me that "dumping a bunch of oil into your car" is changing the oil. I know a baw did that last week and had an expensive ooopsie.
