Restaurant owner Marian Harper Levine broke the news to 60 heartbroken employees on Friday morning. Levine, 66, said, “At this stage of my life, the early mornings to late nights have taken a toll, along with my sleepless nights and grueling hours that come with operating a restaurant business.” “I’m very sad to close the Carnegie Deli but I’ve reached the time of my life when I need to take a step back,” Levine said. Her family has owned the Carnegie since 1976.

It's a block or two away from my office, and I've never been there. Maybe I should go.

Why doesn't she sell it? 60 employees will be out of a job because she's tired? I can understand being at that stage in your life but there has to be an alternative to shutting the doors if the business is profitable enough to sustain 60 employees.

This is her putting up for sale by saying "it is closing".

The bids will be coming out the woodwork.

A corporation or something will buy it and run it as a franchise.

Katz's > Carnegie

I agree with others, though, the "statement" is the equivalent of a For Sale sign.

there are already two...one in vegas and one in PA.
the article says she will continue to provide product for those, plus try to merchandise product to others.

she owns the building so maybe the plan is just to produce the product at that location and close the deli itself. its a shame no matter what
