What got them in trouble is this superfluous apology to "the entire Baton Rouge Community". Why? You didn't do anything to the "entire BR Community." This apology should have been a simple "we reviewed the information and apologized to the customer involved PERIOD. END
It was complete, unnecessary panic by the owner. I would imagine most of Calandro's core customer base would have been COMPLETELY ambivalent to this whole episode.
Then you double-down on your groveling with this:
"I personally appreciate this customer, along with others in our community, for bringing this to our attention because it gives us a chance to rectify it with her and to take a serious look at ourselves and determine where we need to improve."
Now you're inviting every dipshit with a facebook account to tell you how you should change. Most of them probably aren't even your regular customer base. You've been open 75+ years. Clearly you are doing something right. Why change? Apologize to the person you wronged, but there's no need to apologize to thousands of others you haven't. If more business owners would have some backbone, they'd realize a lot of these rebel-rouser losers don't

Fwiw the incidents happened at the midcity location
And the beer section looks like a Mosul neighborhood.

Obviously from the comments these are not regular customers. Many have said they don't shop at the store and won't

I'd rather mid city location work on their produce rather than waste time on this BS. Produce has been pretty bad lately.
And if mid city starts accepting EBT, I'm going elsewhere.

I agree with this. These people are more attention whores than half the OT.

FWIW When I lived nearby, I stopped going there because of how rude the cashiers were under direct management supervision. I don't want to pay extra to be treated poorly... pun intended. That shorter bag man is nice as hell though.

We have blatant social injustices being committed and you're worried about produce?

Actually, the new guy there has really cleaned it up in the last several weeks. The wall of singles is actually organized.

I'm just glad that I don't feel uncomfortable shopping there.

He must have started this morning. I've been there 3 times in the last week or so. Nice guy - just place is unorganized.

Mid-City should accept EBT, but not the Perkins location. I want the Perkins location to continue to be a pleasurable shopping experience.

I laughed way too hard at this.

That would really piss off the SJW crowd. So naturally I am all for it.

Go down to Albs if you need to use your EBT. Or perhaps get a job so you dont have to rely on EBT.
I think this is quite consistent with the entitlement attitude of those who are complaining about it. They demand that every business cater to their every demand and seek to destroy those businesses that do not. There is no live and let live. It's comply or die (not literally).
The arrogance of that mindset is something I can't comprehend. You get free money from the government for food then you demand that a business go through the process of accepting that money even though there is a store that accepts those funds right down the street. These people have become social terrorists.

My fear is that Calandro's on Perkins is going to turn into the crab leg selling mecca of BR.

You should talk to the PSC agents who take complaints because their Obama phones don't have enough minutes..

I loaned somebody $200 a month or so ago and he decided to repay me by using Money Gram for some reason. Albertsons on Government was the only money gram working because apparently rain messes up that system everywhere else. It must have been the day the EBT gets funded because it looked like Somalia in there and took forever.
It would be a damn shame if Calandros goes this way too. Government Street is the front line for gentrification and moving the trash further north and this would be a blow to that progress.
