Buying random jambalaya fund raiser dinners

I think I'm going to have to start asking to see it first before I buy. I got ripped off today. I asked the lady if it came with a drink and she said no, it comes with green beans, bread, and two cookies. It was $8 so I assumed it would at least be a good bit of jambalaya and would be pretty good. I was immediately disappointed when she handed me the box because it was really light. Opened it up and the jambalaya was level with the bottom half of the box. The green beans were straight out of the can and lukewarm. no seasoning at all. The two cookies were from a pack of those 1.00 creme sandwich cookies. Also a slice of white bread. No drink. Jambalaya was nothing special at all.
I didn't ask but I hope it was at least for a good cause. I mean for $8 you could really do better.

I hope you'll leave a 1 star review on Yelp.

You buy one to be kind. As far as the food goes, you'll be disappointed in the quality and portions 90% of the time IMO.

You're right, I do buy them to be kind, but I also buy them for lunch, dinner, etc. You can make a crap load of money and put together an honest meal at the same time. Also, 90% of the time I am fine with them. If they are good, a lot of times I go back and buy more for friends and family.

What was the fund raiser for?

I don't know. I wish I would have asked so I could feel better about my purchase

Dude it’s $8 for a meal and the proceeds go to charity. No reason to expect a lot.

quote:Absolutely. The spoonful of canned beans (green, red or white) the slice of the cheapest white bread possible, and the minuscule desert portion (if they give you one) piss me off. Put out a decent meal. Is it too much to ask when you are asking for random people to help you out?

This is such a sad thing to be bitching about. LOL

Exactly. I know it's a fund raiser but geez. It's also serving a purpose as a lunch for people, or supposed to be anyway.

Louisiana health officials: 158 sick, 40 hospitalized from tainted jambalaya at Caldwell Parish fundraiser
Did they ever determine the exact cause? Sat out too long? Cross contamination with raw meat?

I wonder if the tainted jambalaya that made people sick had seafood as an ingredient. Seafood spoils very quickly when left warm for a while. That's why I never cook seafood jambalaya....I only cook chicken/pork/sausage jambalaya. Never had a problem with my jambalaya spoiling.

For $8... to still have noteworthy money going to the cause you aren’t getting a killer meal
I tend to chalk under 10 up as a donation and over starts to come with expectations of being more of a solid meal when it comes to any of those charity plates

It defeats the purpose of a fundraiser if you actually get fair value for the cost.

Do what I do..... drop them a $10 bill for a donation and tell them to keep their jambalaya. You won't pissed off for a crappy jambalaya and they will have a $10 donation for their cause.
