I want to make a gallon or two at a time. Can I scale up the basic recipe of tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, agave nectar? I have a few bottles of tequila and mezcal already. Any advice or recipes? Any other drinks I should consider?

Try 3 parts tequila, 2 parts lime juice, 1 part Cointreau on a small scale and adjust the proportions to your taste for bulk

Bartending days I remember a 22 quart recipe that called for 3 liters of Tequila, 1 1/2 liters of triple sec (cointreau, grand marnier). 1/2 bottle of lime juice and fill with sweet and sour mix. Cut that in half for 2+ gallons.

FYI, fresh lime juice it at its best for 4 hours then starts rapidly declining

How long ahead of time are you planning to make your batch? I ask because fresh lime juice and agave nectar make the best fresh margaritas, but those almost need to be made to order. If making a large amount ahead of time it is hard to beat Simply Limeade.

3:1 good 100% blue agave tequila to orange liqueur. Blanco is best for the masses, but I like repasado for my personal favorite.

3 cups tequila
1 cup Cointreau/Grand Mariner/Triple sec
1 52 oz bottle of Simply Limeade

That makes a fairly strong rita (its half alcohol), so you may want to add more Simply Limeade to taste depending on your preference and crowd.

Simply Limeade
this is the best premix option. 2nd place is the powdered mix from spec’s.

That stupid YaYa Sisterhood tequila recipe seems to be popular. I've made it, and it's fine:
1 (12 ounce) can frozen limeade concentrate (semi-thawed)
12 fluid ounces tequila
6 fluid ounces 7-up
6 fluid ounces cold water (or use 12 fl.oz. Seven-Up or water)
12 fluid ounces beer
ice (lots of ice!)
1 lime (cut into wedges).

The attraction of the recipe is that you dump the concentrate in. Fill the concentrate canister with tequila. Dump that in. Fill canister halfway with 7 up. Dump that in. Fill canister halfway with water. Dump that in. Dump in beer. So it's super easy to make.

For my wife's birthday last year, instead of making it in bulk, we made a margarita bar so everyone could just make it themselves. We printed out a couple different recipes, but really just left it at our guest discretion. We did a ton of lime juice, tequila, Cointreau, triple sec, gran Marnier, a couple different salt blends (one was straight salt, one was sweeter with agave, and then a spicy one with tajin) and some different fruits/sides (I think strawberries, pineapple, blueberries and pickled jalapeños). It worked out great.

The margarita purists here will DV all day long but for bulk, I use a similar recipe:

1 Can - Frozen Limeade
1 1/2 Can - Tequila
1/2 Can - Triple Sec

(If a strawberry margarita is requested, I add 1 can of frozen strawberry daquiri and 1 additional can of tequila.)

12oz. goes into the Margaritaville blender and press the button. Real hard to beat if serving a lot of people.

It isn't better than tequila, fresh lime juice, and cointreau. But it is a great alternative to avoid squeezing enough limes for a lot of people.

Whole Food sells this fresh cold pressed lime juice. I just can't get into the limeade/juice products, so I buy this when I don't want to fuss with squeezing limes.

I bought a verve countertop press juicer and it has been an absolute game changer. I can juice a 5lb bag of limes in 3-5 minutes
