My kid will be going to grad school at A&M starting in August. This is one SEC town I am not very familiar with.
We will be there next weekend looking for housing. Any recommendations on some good casual dining spots in the area would be appreciated.... Thanks!

I'm not there a lot and usually in and out for game days. But a few casual places that I know of:
Dixie Chicken - burgers and cheap beer
Chicken Oil Company - same.
Koppe Bridge - burgers and fried platters
Coco Shrimp - ate their last week. Really good shrimp tacos
Wings N More for .......wings
Never been but I've heard Napa Flats is a good place.

Went to Troubador festival there recently. Tried a German place there called Bavarian Brauhaus off of a board recommendation.
Honestly it was not very good and I would not recommend. Sorry can’t help with any other recommendations for the area. I will say that there were a lot of chain restaurants that I have never seen before to pick from.

thanks for the tips!
My kid is planning to be there for the next 5 years, so I guess I am about to learn a lot of Bryan - College Station!

Try Christopher's World Grill, and The Republic steak house. If you are okay with a chain taco place, try Fuego. I did like Napa Flats, but it was not as high end as Christopher's and The Republic.
BTW, I've heard the ESPN and other network commentators for football games talk up both Christopher's and The Republic for meals they had while in to announce a game.

The Republic and Chrostopher’s are both really good. I’ve had many meals at both.
Cafe Capri in downtown Bryan is al little Italian place that’s worth the trip.

We had a nice time at Gate 12 Bar & Grill. It's situated next to an airport so you can actually sit outside and take in the flights. They also have an original propeller from the Enola Gay on display.
Choi's Restaurant for excellent hole in the wall Korean food.
Good BBQs there too in Rudy's and C&J BBQ.

You said casual, so I'll stick to that.
I'm a fan of Napa Flats. It's where my daughter wants to go every time I offer to take her to dinner, and it's excellent. Try the citrus chicken.
I also really like Cilantro Mexican Grill and Casa Monarca (Mexican) as well as Lamar and Niki's (soul food) in Bryan.
I've tried almost all the other options mentioned as well and don't disagree with any of them.

Thanks again for all these recommendations! As I mentioned earlier, I guess I'll have about 5 years or so to try all these places out!
My oldest is heading to College Station for grad school and my youngest is heading to Starkville to start his undergrad. I'm a little more familiar with Starkville, but looking forward to spending time there in the next few years as well...

Just an FYI, if you want a reservation at one of the better restaurants around graduation time, reserve a table around 2 months in advance. Earlier if they let you.

We enjoy Marfa Texas Kitchen. Don’t sleep on the burgers at the Dixie Chicken.

Don't expect a whole lot. Bryan was once a thriving cotton & cattle town in the Brazos Valley with A&M College down the highway in the scrub where the cadets could fire their cannons without killing the neighbors. Now the whole area is Houston urban sprawl west. For a nostalgic experience drive downtown Bryan at 7:00am. Find a place serving breakfast and order a plate of Migcas.

College Station isn't a great food town. Not a food snob so it suits me just fine. That said, if your route traverses I-10/I-12, your options are numerous.

College Station is great at selling overpriced shite to aggy.
It is not low cost, but when the eventual graduation rolls around, the restaurant attached to the George is fantastic. I'd prefer a good $20 patty melt over an $80 steak, but I can appreciate game.

Poche's Seafood Shoppe and Restaurant
3004 Holleman Drive South, College Station, TX 7784
Distant cousin. 3rd or 4th cousin. Johnny Poché is the owner and a son of my fathers 1st cousin. I've never dined there so I can't say if the food is good but it damn sure looks it.

Poche’s is not good. And your cousin Johnny just got like his fourth DWI arrest. Surely he’s going to jail. I second Marfa’s and Napa Flats for more casual. Republic or Christopher’s for more formal. Cousin Johnny does have a decent Italian restaurant-1860 Italia. Food is good but don’t go there to have a conversation. It’s very loud.
