The Alchemist is in a little town of just over 5,000 people.
Same town also has Ben & Jerry's, Cabot Creamery cheeses, and Green Mountain coffee.
Not sure population is really the driving force behind where a brewery would be set up.
Arnaudville is under 1500, and Bayou Teche is still doing well there.

I don't know much about commercial brewing, but if any of you guys are looking to start a brewery in LA, and are considering hiring a brewer from Oregon, I will be glad to go taste his/her beer for you.

Surprising vote as well from a normally dysfunctional group.

That is shocking considering not that long ago they were scared to ditch the blue laws (If I remember it was only past because a few council types were lame ducks at that point).
