Not sure where you are but I recently did a tasting of 7 bourbons, some rare, some not,
Jefferson’s Reserve Small batch and Angels Envy were the winners and both are readily available most places. I’d recommend the Jefferson Reserve, it’s about $55 I think and comes in a canister so looks nice as a gift.

Stopped on way home to pick up a bottle as I’ve not heard of this one yet. Drinking first pour now
This is fricking delicious. I confirm your choice here bud. Well done!

Glad to help. It is a very full flavored bourbon!

Indeed it is! I was just telling my buddy the same thing. I described it to him as having tons of depth.
Have you tried blade and bow? That’s one I also love. Has a unique profile to it.

The first response in this thread was the correct one. 1920 is the best available bourbon for its price period.

I was choosing between the 1920 and the Bakers. Went with bakers and love it. 1920 is my July buy. (Im no baller so limit myself to one $50+ bottle per month)

Don’t make the mistake my buddy did and buy Willett because the bottle looks cool- it’s pretty terrible.

Bakers is good as well. I’m the same way with purchases. I went overboard back in the day when I got in the game. Now i keep it simple. I always have a bottle of 101 on hand. Then I’ll have 1 nice bourbon and 1 scotch. When I drink them I replace them. No more hoarding, standing In line, bragging about wellerz......it just got exhausting and pretty cringeworthy.

A few years back my wife bought this for me for Father’s Day. She knows nothing of bourbon. She asked the people at martins what’s a good one, and they told her that willet. Yeah it wasn’t very good.
I never trust the people at martins ever since. They just lead you to whatever they need to sell to appease their distributors.

I can't remember the last time I saw Elmer T Lee.

Same thing happened to me. I bought it for husband's bday and since he knows bourbon he put it in the bar and has never opened it

Old Forester 1920
Bought this last night to try. So far I am on the fence. It has a nice deep richness to it, but it also has an alcohol burn that reminds me of when I got smashed on Early Times back in HS and have never been able to touch that stuff again, meaning my muscle memory is kicking in and forcing me to unfairly judge this one.
I sipped it neat with no added water though, so tonight I will try with a splash and then follow with a large ice cube in my second pour. I do find that some bourbons taste better with ice while others neat. I am no expert, so this probably sounds like elementary to your bourbon affics.
Comparing it to the Bakers I tried when this thread started, I much prefer Bakers. Will see if I feel the same as this bottle depletes.
To this point in my limited experiences, my favorite bourbons are:
Angels Envy Rye
Blade and Bow
Bakers
Blantons

It will open up very nicely with some drops of water, but you seem to prefer lower proof stuff. If you like the flavors of this, but can't get past the heat, I HIGHLY recommend you stop by Calandros and pick up his OF single barrel pick...very nice bottle....if you're anywhere near the BR area that is

I always get Old Forrester 1910. Is the '20 better?
Posted on 7/1/20 at 9:59 am to FinleyStreet
They are two totally different styles. 1910 is basically a double oaked bourbon whereas 1920 is the high proof offering. 1910 is focused on giving you a ton of oak and deep sugars, whereas 1920 is focused on giving you a spicier pour. It all depends on what you're looking for
