Boiling shrimp question

Boiled 2 pounds last night for me and my son. What is the key ingredient to help the shrimp peel easy? I tried a couple of tablespoons of cooking oil but they still weren't where they should have been.

You might have overcooked them...

Stopping the cooking process as soon as their shell starts to separate from the meat. When I boil in a large pot, I drop a bag of ice (still in the bag) right after I cut off the fire. Comes out perfect every time without oil or butter.

Vinegar. Look at the recipe on the back of an old bay can. Come out perfect every time.

you dip a plastic bag in boiling liquid? I'm pretty sure that's the recipe for cancer.

Yeah, I've thought about that before. I get the big bags out of those self serve ice dispensers. They're pretty thick and have never melted.
I used to use gallon milk jugs filled with water that I kept in my deep freezer but I could never keep enough on hand for our bigger boils.

If the shrimp aren't overcooked, you shouldn't need to put an oily element in to have them peel easily. You have to stop the cooking immediately. Shrimp cook FAST. For that amount, dropping a bunch of ice in the pot immediately should cool them down and allow soak time.

The UV rays from the sun infuse bottled water with chemicals that are harmful if let in direct sunlight.
Putting a plastic bag in boiling water sounds like a recipe for bad things.

Put lots of seasoning when they float pull them out....... if they not seasoned enough add some seasoning to your dip.

You overlooked them. The water has to be cooled or that'll happen.
