I did. I'm not copying and pasting all of your posts from this thread. Not once did you explain yourself. Someone else even called you out on the absurdity of your statement.

I built one out of PVC before I knew the Boil Boss or Cajun Halo existed. I think I spent ~$45. I couldn't find the elbows I wanted locally so had to order online, so shipping added to the cost a bit. I went 3/4" and 22.5* elbows to form a hexadecagon. I could have gotten by cheaper with 45* elbows to form a octagon. I would have used half the elbows, but I wanted it more circular.

Other parts that I bought used were the actual piping, a Tee, a hose attachment, cement & primer, as well as 3 split ring tubing hangers, and 3 threaded rods which I used as the hangers.

I'm sure I could have done it cheaper, but it was a fun little project and it works REALLY well.

The only way this works really well is to boil on cement next to a drain that can catch all the water.

They should have made the slits very small so the water sprays out in almost a mist. That would be working very well

I can’t believe they argued about spraying water on a pot for that long.

Some people lost the coonass in them to not see how easy and cheap this would be to recreate with the same effectiveness, but a coonass look. They should be ashamed.

I should have taken GeauxTigers lead early on. What a waste of time.

I'm interested in making that crawfish washer. Thx for the pic. Did you turn the holes to spray so it creates a whirlpool effect? Looks like in the pic yours spray straight into the center, which, I guess that would work too but I want to get the water moving in a circle.

They are pointed to the side. I actually found the patent for the washer and it gives some details on the specs.

I used a table saw to cut the holes for the jets for my first try, but will use a dremel next. If that doesn't get enough pressure in the jets, I'll have to go with a smaller pipe.

Patent info

No prob. If I get everything working, I'll start a new thread with instructions, parts list, etc.

That's a device I'd try.

My buddy and I tried to recreate the process that Hawk's does by purging their crawfish. Note this "purging" is not the "rinse the crawfish with salt water until the water runs clear" method. This is where they aerate the crawfish for two days (48 hours) in water.

The idea is that the crawfish get really white tails and really gold fat, and come out very clean in general.

We used:

Aerator Amazon

A champagne basket:

And a tub

We put the aerator tubes in the bottom of the tub, and spaced them out. Then we filled with water.

We next (and made a mistake, and will explain below) dumped all of the crawfish out of the sack and into the basket.

We put the basket in, and tied down the empty sack so that the crawfish could not escape.

Each day, we would pull the crawfish out of the tub, empty the tub and put in fresh water. You can probably imagine how bad that smelled.

On the final day, we boiled them. The crawfish sure enough came out pure, bright-white tails and bright gold fat. The only issue is that the crawfish cannibalized/killed each other (territorial bugs) while living in the tub for 2 days
So we lost about 20-30% of the crawfish. Next time (and I don't see it being for quite sometime, it is a heavy process that probably is not worth it, I'll leave the crawfish strapped down in the sack so they can't do that.

Sounds like something you experiment with once and never do again because its not worth it

I'd like to try it again one time to see if they hold up in the sack vs. out of the sack. If that's the case, its just a matter of storing them in the shade for two days.

But, again, it was effort that certainly wasn't terribly needed.

Also, if you are boiling more than one sack, can't do this method for more than 2 at a time (sacks still in tack, and I am guessing here), which means you need to buy more pumps, baskets and tubs.

All and all, fun experiment on a bored weekend when crawfish were dirt cheap (think we got our sack for $35 that weekend *late in the season*, thanks Crawfish App).

Yeah. The result is great, but not really practical or cost effective for a sack or two. The scale at which Hawk's does their purging operation and being able to price loss into the cost makes it viable.

All these new gadgets and geniuses around with new theories on boiling crawfish yet I hardly ever have good ones anymore. More practice seasoning and soaking and less time rigging up pvc , South Louisiana

LoL. On an open internet forum: "Hey everybody look! I found a patent I am planning to violate. Here is how to do it!"

It's not a violation of a patent if you make it for yourself and don't sell them. And it's certainly not a violation to share the patent information - it's public record after all.
