I took the wife down to a little island in the Bahamas called Eleuthera for our Honeymoon... great getaway, we stayed on a private beach in a house, and literally only saw two people on that stretch of beach the entire week we were there. The downside to all the seclusion and "simple life" is that there is a lack of restaurants, food stores, etc. Most everything they have at their grocery stores are shipped in from the States or from Nassau - resulting in overpriced, old, stale food.

To go along with that, it was a rare occasion to find any kind of fresh fish (believe it or not) in any store... and if you wanted to eat fresh fish you had to buy it from the fishermen when they would come in off the water at the end of the day. The exception to this is Conch... all of the 4 or 5 restaurants that we visited throughout the island had fresh Conch (by fresh, I mean they literally walked outside, and picked the conch out of the water while we were waiting). We quickly found out that a fresh "conch burger" was the best food on the island... it was amazing, and totally surprising.

What are some of your good (or bad) weird food experiences?

i've had some great dishes done with shark fin, and also some enjoyable dishes with tripe and toungue. Also a lot of good preperations of squid and octopus that weren't just fried or sauteed.

Take a wild guess what style of cooking that is... you'll only need one.

I'll try pretty much anything-liver, sweetbreads, tripe, tongue, blood sausages, calf fries, bone marrow, fish collars, octopus, squid, goat, rattlesnake a couple times, all manner of wild game.

Pretty much everything I ate in Korea, "chicken" on a stick, fried squid, fish soup, shrimp burgers. Seaweed "burritos" filled with...stuff. All of it was good.

I can't imagine, this is true.

All the mexican taco stands have tongue tacos, and they're typically as cheap as all the others.

Tongue at the store costs around 10 bucks...a few years ago, it was around 3 bucks. Same goes for beef cheeks, which is what the best barbacoa is out of made-a few years ago it was 2-3 bucks, now it's 7-10 bucks. I don't know why, but there has been a steady climb in price for non typical cuts/offal.

Depends on where you get it from. From a Mexican butcher shop you can usually get them to dress it for you, but it's not that hard to dress one yourself.

Just called my uncle's store and it is 6.99/lb cleaned. It must have been 14.95 for the whole tongue that I bought last.
