Maybe it was more like 10. I went a couple of times in that time frame and it was pretty good and then when I went 2 times in the last 5 years it was subpar both times. Falling more so the second time. It has been about 2 years since I have been.

In a previous life, 13-14 years ago, I used to go there often. Glad to hear it is still considered high quality.

Prejean's and Randol's are tourist traps. Never on my list of places to eat in Lafayette...

I'd go to Prejean's before Randol's and Randol's is just five minutes away from me.

I'm the exact opposite and I've had some good meals at Randol's for what it is. Had some good crawfish bisque there and shrimp app that was good. The soft shell crab was very good. I'm a tourist, though. I love watching the dancing. Haven't been a few years, but I go every once in a while when I have some kids with me who get a kick out of trying to 2 step. I like it a LOT more than Prejean's or Blue Dog.

Gris, I do take out of towners to go Cajun dancing. Again, Randol's is five minutes away, but I will take them to Pont Breaux's (formerly Mulate's) for Cajun music and dancing 19 out of 20 times. For the fun, not the food.

I know I have a bias against Randol's and I know I am not being objective. I'm sure some of their food is good.

I'm not saying it's the best restaurant around and I haven't had all that many things on the menu, but what I've had was good. They do a good job on the gumbos and the bisque. Roux is dark, plenty of seafood, not overcooked, spicy. I had an app similar to the Asian shrimp at Zea with a ginger and cane syrup sort of glaze which was very good. The point is you can find something good to eat there. Probably the same at Prejeans, but the last several times I've been there, everyone at the table was disappointed and we ordered a lot of different things. The exception was one person who got a grilled chicken breast which was okay. So, comparing the two, I'd hit Randol's every time and I'd go there before ever going to Blue Dog again.

Y'all already know my favorite Laffy meal is shrimp gumbo (I have an addiction) at the downtown Don's sometimes with the fried crab claws or fried shrimp and the house Italian salad dressing.

Just outside of Laffy, I like Riverside.

Riverside has a special place in my heart. Great memories when it was actually ON the river. Still love to get their seafood salad, as well as a few other things. The sweet potato beignets are awesome!
