I'll second Bangers....great beer selection, house made sausage and live music. Just a few clicks away is Craft Pride ...more Craft beer and a Detroit style pizza truck in the back that's soleed. Other places...Whip In, Hi Hat Public House, AGBG....brew pub...beer is decent but live music and outside area next to the railroad trax. My favorite place is Don's Depot....old school honky tonk music and old school geezer Austin characters.

Sam's is great....but a little far south for most people.
Easy Tiger is a good spot on 6th.

Better half coffee and cocktails is a nice spot to grab dinner and a cocktail without being overly pretentious.
Tamale House East if you want Tex-Mex and then grab drinks on East 6th. Spicy Boys is a great food truck in that area at Zilker Brewery.
Texas chili parlor is a classic as well.
I'll personally vouch for Banger's and Easy Tiger any day.
