Need help here.. I’ve tried velvet cactus, el paso, la hacienda, el gato negro, la carreta, el patron, and Juan’s flying burrito, and my recent and favorite so far is barracuda off tchop. All of the above seem to be lacking in one way or another. Don’t get me wrong they are all pretty good in their own way. However, i’m in need of a good rec to top the chart.

Velvet cactus is not good. I dated a girl in nola and have tried several on your list and didn't think many were good. Good luck on your quest

Do you want Tex Mex, actual Mex, Taco shop, or other Latin?

This. With Mexican food, you gave to be more specific. I’ve seen this board recommend the little authentic Mexican grocery store where nobody speaks English to someone asking for Mexican to celebrate his wife’s 40th with friends

Casa Garcia

Their bean dip alone is worth the trip.

You are from Texas. The reason you didn't like any of them is because even the best New Orleans Mexican food is average by Texas' standards.

There are a lot of great restaurants in New Orleans, but none of them are Mexican. That is not what we specialize in here. When most of the people I know want Mexican food, they are looking for margaritas with spicy Tex Mex dishes to go with them. They are not looking for gourmet food. It is different in Texas.

Personally Juan's or Casa Borrega are usually my go to. If I'm being cheap I go to Carretas

Johnny Sanchez is a nice place.

Taqueria Guerro has solid food but no atmosphere. I’ve heard El Pavo Real is very good.

Absolutely, the problem is that a place shite tier salsa And especially shitty tortillas will be jam packed in Louisiana.

There is no motivation to be better because places are printing money

Del Fuego?

A new place opened up on David Dr in Metairie. Tacos del Cartel - haven't been over to try them yet, but will hit them up some time next week.

I had taco loco for the first time this weekend and it’s a solid cheap taco place if you’re in uptown

Tried Pedros in Harahan this last weekend and was satisfied, they spent a shitload of money on that place. Chain but a regional chain. Taqueria Corona is damn good. Carretas sucks, Juan’s is not worth the price in my opinion. Johnny Sanchez is good. Mas Arepas is the best Latin restaurant in the city which will have similar flavors. I do agree that Casa Garcia is really good, never had a bad meal there and the gringo queso is dynamite.

Actual Mex. I love all of the above, nevertheless, I think it’s between Taqueria Guerrero, El Pavo Real, and Casa Borrega. Leaning to Casa Borrega for next adventure. Keeping all recs into consideration though, thanks to everyone and their input. Del fuego, el taco loco, pacos tacos, etc.. all on to eat list.
