People like Riverside b/c it's a real hamburger patty, not some frozen processed crap.
and the real reason people love it is b/c you can get a cheeseburger and fries for cheaper at this place than you can at just about any fast food place down the street.
Riverside Cheeseburger and fries - <$10
Whataburger double cheeseburger and fries - >$10
McDonalds double quarter pounder with cheese and fries - >$10
Burger King Double whopper with cheese and fries - >$10
Jackoff in a Box double jack with cheese and fries - >$10
Sonic double cheeseburger with fries - >$10
and i did a double for all of them b/c it takes two skinny patties from all these places to equal the one thick patty from Riverside.
That's your choices right there by Riverside. A real piece of meat fully dressed with fries or tator tots for just under $10, or some frozen fast food patty and fries for just over $10. It's a really easy choice.
On top of all of that it's a family run business and I've always been treated great over there. There's a reason the parking lot is full for lunch every single day.

Meh, I never found it that great when I lived there.

The reason it's full for lunch everyday is because it's cheap and big. That's it. That does not mean it's even close to in the running for "best" burger. It's an indicator that it's on the other end of the spectrum.
And, yes, I've had it a dozen or so times in my life. It's a big, dry, grey burger.
It's the equivalent of someone posting "Outback" or "Texas Roadhouse" in a thread about the best steak in BR.

That’s because it’s a money laundering front

I've been living in BR for almost 40 years, about 2 weeks ago I went to Dearman's for the 1st time, so nostalgia has nothing to do with my opinion. I liked the hand-formed patty because the irregularities make for nice crusty burgers, the Maillard reaction is working overtime. The bun was meh, but BR places rarely excel in that department, the fixings and fries were spot on, so overall it was a nice experience. BTW nice eye candy the day I was there.
Riverside Patty is obviously a no-frills, blue collar joint, it has the hustle, busy ambiance of a family run operation. The food comes out fast and cheap, I enjoy places like this for more than the food. It's usually packed at lunch, the energy is part of the charm, the burgers are pretty good. I like going there because it is nothing like a chain, it isn't a sanitized cookie-cutter you get at McD's or BK. We don't have enough places like this.
Tramonte's has very good burgers and plate lunches, it is the polar opposite of a place like Panera, instead of kitschy decor and overpriced food, it has no decor and reasonable prices. The burgers are massive, a friend told me he doesn't like the burgers because they are like an "over-spiced meatball", which is why I like them. My sandwich is usually big enough to provide another meal, but if not, I usually pick something out of the meatcase to grill for dinner.
Goodwood Grill is vastly underrated, everything on the menu is excellent, my wife and I usually split a lunch, the fried catfish lunch on Friday fills us both, at $12.99 it is a steal.

My brother in law who has been living in St. Louis the past 15 or so years just moved back to BR and went to Dearman’s a few weeks back since he used to really like it back in the day. He said it was terrible.

I eat there a good bit, and I don't think I have ever gotten a burger at Goodwood Grill. I usually go for the shrimp philly.

Went today with friends. Not bad, nice size burger, fully dressed. Fries and Malt were also very good. They support the LSU players. They have a Caden Durham Burger.

This is hands down the best burger in BR right now. Used to be George’s.

From the early 80's until the original Dearmans drugstore/soda fountain closed down I ate there all the time. The burgers, fries, milk shakes and the fountain drinks were really great. The "new" Dearmans is nothing like the original. I went one time after they opened and never went back.

Lose all credibility with that answer. Nasty piece of charcoal on bread.

Where in the world are you getting ground chuck for $2/lb? I rarely find even mediocre ground beef for less than $5/lb these days.

Sprouts has great ground beef and chicken
