Thank you JJ27....I ate In-and-Out more than I would have liked to over the past 20 years (do to shift work and having them being the only place open and local), and always thought they were just OK and nothing special....Seems for some the rest of the nation is way more infatuated with them than we are here in No. Cal.
Right now for my money the best burger out there is the Big Carl at Carl's junior....Every once in a while, against the wishes of my small intestines,I visit the Clown and get a Jumbo Jack Kevorkian Burger...and a bunch of those tacos...

Whataburger for me. Been a while since Ive had one, but remember it being far superior to the rest of the crap out there.

interesting. I have never seen an In-N-Out in So.Cal or Arizona without significant lines near meal times. Many of them have to direct traffic in the drive thru/parking lots and take orders on headsets while walking around to alleviate traffic.
eta: i also see tons of people saying 5 Guys. Do the ones near you have a drive thru? If not, they don't meet the parameters of this thread.

Steak and Shake; would have voted 5 guys if they met the criteria.

Sonic - love the green chile cheesburger and onion rings.

freaux, fwiw carl jrs & hardees are one and the same.
Fixed it, I never realized that. I used to eat at Hardees just because it was one of the few fast food places where you could get biscuits and gravy.
I updated the poll results so far.

not sure if they are.
Carl's bought out Hardee's about 10 years ago and for years have been transitioning Hardee's to become more like Carl's Jr., but i don't know if the menus and quality are now identical. Haven't been to a Hardee's since the late 90's.
Has anyone been to both recently?

Checkers
I'll tell you what. Back in the days a Big Buford from Rally's on the Expressway with those battered, seasoned fries and a Barq's on the side really hit the spot.

i really dont get the love for 5 guys.
i've eaten there many times and aside from the fact they put more shite on the burger than a sweep-the-kitchen from johnnys; if you're a purist like me, you want to taste the flavor of the meat.
anyone who has eaten at 5 guys needs to be honest and admit the patties are super tiny and overcooked and really bland without the 'dressing' on top.
oh and 5 guys fries suck badly. for a place that puts so much emphasis on the fries, you'd think they'd have a little more flavor. i'd rather eat the (free) peanuts than pay for another greasy bag of flavorless french fries.

only eaten there once, but i agree. I approach pizza the same way. Let me see a great simple product first...then have your fun.

i'm not a big fry fan in general, but tried them b/c of the hype. Mushy, greasy, nasty, and salty as all hell....even for fast food. Using fresh cut potatoes means nothing if you don't cook them properly.
