Family’s first time to visit Louisiana. Best restaurant within hour from Alexandria? I know I know, but they are older and don’t do longer car rides.

Steamboat Warehouse in Washington. Less than 50min from Alex on I-49

Side saddle angels for app, Flounder Dianne for entree, can’t go wrong...

No experience w/ Diamond Grill, but Bellino's & Verona are both solid...

Agree with Bellino's and Verona.

Tunk's for fried seafood would be fun, but definitely off the road, only dinner.

I'll throw out Rosie Joe's for boiled and fried seafood- open for lunch and dinner.

Definitely a few options in Natchitoches for a quaint river view.

Also will throw out Lea's Lunch Room ham sandwich for contention.

I believe we had a thread on this restaurant as being one of the three in that area fined for calling swai "catfish" on their menus. This was a few years ago, I think.

You're right about the Swai

I guess I was only speaking of the previous owners, which I should rescind my nomination because my review was from about 8 years ago.

Wasn't there a few worth driving to restaurants in Marksville? I can't find it on a quick yelp search. All i remember was people talking about driving out there for dinner.

When Red River Grill was open, we drove there regularly. It was awesome.

I looked on Facebook at a few of them. The menus just say "fish" now. Apparently, they still serve the Swai. The rest of the food may be just fine. It does, however, make me wonder if the crawfish dishes which use the tails only, are Louisiana crawfish.

Doesn't seem to affect my enjoyment of the food.

The best crab cakes I have ever had in my life. My only complaint was that I didn’t get enough with the crab cake pasta. Next time, I will order an app of crab cakes and the crab cake pasta together.

I'm from Alex and one of the unfortunate things about the area is how inconsistent the restaurants can be. Diamond Grill can be good, or you can get overcooked/undercooked steak or shrimp.

Verona's is the same.

My favorite thing to get when I go to visit my dad is the Five Pepper Pasta at Ember's. That's just always fantastic and there's nothing like that in BR.
