Friday before Wife's Bday she wants to go have some drinks, maybe a small bite to eat but not really a sit down dinner. Looking for recommendations for the best bar/restaurant to do this. She wants it to be a nicer place and it can be a restaurant that has a nice bar area. Appreciate the recommendations. We typically go to Ruffinos or French Market Bistro for this, but looking to try some other places.

Louisiana Lagniappe - bar is small but will be packed and food is great.

Olive or Twist - good drinks, food is ok, more of a bar type atmosphere

Kahlura Grill would be another good option. Nice little bar and you have access to hte overpass area on foot.

Olive or Twist - great drinks, solid food, fun atmosphere. They've upped their food game a bit lately, but I haven't tried it yet.

Overpass Merchant - small bar, but they make good drinks. For my money, the best food out of any of the places I'm suggesting.

Blend - really good meat and cheese plates.

Magnolia Cafe downtown - fun, funky bar, but they have odd hours for food service. I have never eaten there, so I can't speak to the food quality, but friends like it.

The Gregory downtown - nice bar, good food. A little pricey, but it's your wife's birthday. Not a time to go cheap.

The Gregory is a solid suggestion. They have valet parking so you can hit the sidewalk to your bar stool in about twenty steps which is nice.

I would stay away from Olive or Twist and Overpass Merchant for a "nicer" Bday only because they are super popular right now and always packed. Parking for Overpass has been a nightmare lately and people were standing room only on the porch during a driving rain storm on Tues. Not a "nicer" experience.

I would also throw in Juban's for your consideration. Nice bar, awesome wine selection and great food. Seems more on line with your regular haunts than the places by the overpass.

I'll add City Pork Brasserie & Bar (the one on Jefferson). My wife and I usually get a table, but we sat at the bar for brunch on Sunday and were very impressed. Good drink selection and the full menu is available.

The Bin-77/Sidebar combination can work for this too.

Tsunami. The weather should be nice enough to sit out on the roof and take in the view.
