HEB also has a wonderful bakery

The best in Texas are Super HEB and their spin off Central Market. Both are better and cheaper, including natural/organic stuff than Whole Foods.
Yeah I was going to note that, HEBs are awesome.

Sure if all you want is bagels and pastrami, maybe some little fish in jars. But sometimes I like a little cheese on my hamburger and.... oh wait. never mind, misread that.

You haven't worn the spring out on your tracer by now? We used to use them to shoot down our little green toy soldiers that we would build forts for out of Lincoln Logs.

It's hard not to notice that BR has the worst grocery stores this side Bangladesh. It was explained to me for years that Schwegmann's kept the big chains out, but Schwegmann's is long gone.
With as lively a food culture as we have here, all we have are WF and Fresh Market, not to denigrate Calandro's and Calvin's, both excellent on a small scale. Am I missing some stores I should know about? Don't say Maxwell's, it's barely above convenience store size.

I never remember having so few choices for grocery stores than I do here in Mississippi. All we have is Winn-Dixie and Rouse's. I don't even count Wal-Mart.
When I lived in Florida we had Publix, W-D, Albertson's, and Super Target. Add Sweetbay to that in Tampa area.
When I lived up in New Jersey we had 7 grocery store chains in the area and from what I heard, most if not all of them were unionized, so this prevented Walmart from opening up Supercenters there and in New York because the unions teamed up to prevent Supercenters.

Yeah. If you have ever been to Florida you should have seen a Publix. Usually very clean.

Wegmen's FTW.
That place is like Whole Foods but better and not as expensive.
Too bad they are only a regional supermarket

Doesn't BR have an Albertson's or Kroger, I remember stopping at one about 3 years ago, granted things could of changed since then. Also has Rouses not made it up there. That is the only decent one down in NOLA outside Dorignacs(one store, great for steaks) or maybe Robert's(never been, only a few around). I wish Krogers would come down here to NOLA, anything to maybe help push Winn Dixie out. They are good for nothing except beef, liqueur and generic sodas

i was just at a Wegman's in PA last week. I really wish we had them down here.

Never really understood the hype for Fresh Market. The variety is pretty sad.
Then again, I'm comparing them against my beloved Central Market.

Hey Panny, since you're in Ft. Worth do they still have Simon Davids? Loved that place. Pricey but great stuff.

Ya, Whole Foods is mersh. Overpriced food to help hipsters feel self important. I also don't like the faux-local feel they try to perpetuate when they are as corporate as any other chain.
Sorry if any of you love WF.
I go there every weekend to buy meats. Their meats are legit.
You can also find good beers in there.

I was a baker when Dorignacs opened thier bakery in the mid-80's (Google the name Mark Fitch my boss). That store will order anything that a customer asks to be on the shelves ASAP.

No sir, Mr. Zach. No Simon Davids in the Fort.

Dorignacs is a great grocery store, just not worth going to often coming from the Westbank and fighting traffic of Vets. Wish I could remember it having a bar in there. But I do consider the best place to buy steaks in the NO area
