yall really really really have no idea about Mexican food.

We don't give a shite about "real" Mexican food. We grew up with Cuco's, Poncho's and Taco Bell.
We like Tex-Mex food.

As long as the cheese dip is good and the sweet tea glass gets refilled quickly, then we are good with whatever version of a chimichanga, quesadilla or taco that you want to serve us.

we’ve been twice and it’s shockingly good. Asian fusion with local ingredients. The guys who run it also own the depot in independence. No liquor license yet but red white and brew is across the street.

if in the area it’s a solid choice, everything we’ve had has been delicious and satisfying

Wife and I are overdue to try this place, she had been looking forward to it opening for a long time. We hit The Depeaux for wings fairly regularly, they are the best wings in the area IMO, or atleast of the ones i've tried.

My apologies. I was talking about Tex mex too. It’s amazing how close yet how far Mexican restaurants are from Houston, Dallas, or Austin are from here. There’s really not much similarity in my humble opinion

Ninfas 20 years ago might approximate it the closest but Pappasitos or El Fenix even are miles better than any nonsense around here

Yeah, I know.
Thought you might have known Luke personally and knew how he was doing.

like la caretta

I like la carretta for the location, the food has gone downhill from where it started.

The other restaurants he opened are not my favorite but he does a good job with ambiance.

Give me Tope La or Cena if I'm going to spend money in Hammond. I haven't tried Jacmel since Rick sold out his part of it.

That’s a place to drink margs and eat chips. That’s it. Well the scenery is nice too.

He was inside of a Rende's on University before he obtained the location downtown.
According to a post that I read, he had to close suddenly due to some serious medical issues and hoped to be back in 2025. Looks like that has been pushed back to next year.

We used to eat there pretty often, their food was always excellent!

Well my recovery has not gone to plan and unfortunately a 2025 reopening date is going to have to be pushed to 2026. That said, I have so much to be grateful for and some folks have far greater challenges than I. God Bless you all and always remember to Love Wide Open with those who mean the most! Luke
hope he recovers quickly

On my way to Baton Rouge I swung in and had lunch based off the recommendation of this post. Ordered the Hunter’s Ramen with chicken as the protein. That broth is spicy which is fine by me. It was very good. Will go again when traveling through the area to try some of their other offerings.
