Tried Kary's gumbo mix last night...followed the recipe on the back of the box with one slight moderation (I added 2 cans of Trappy's Tomatoes & Okra) and it came out surprisingly DELICIOUS!!!

Any prefered gumbo mix? La Fish Fry? Mom Papal? Kari's? Savoie's? Etc?

And if you don't like tomatoes and okra...just leave it out!

That's bait.

I do like Kary's for a box gumbo though. And Jambalaya girl is good for a box mix as well.

I wasn't going to mention it but I wanted to post the picture.

Plus, I have no shame admitting I put tomatoes in my gumbo...my family is originally from New Orleans and Avoyelles Parish!

I also sit and pee when I am at home...if I'm not peeing in the backyard

Tomatoes…….

Are a must in any gumbo. Also mixing sausage with seafood and chicken is the perfect combo…

Next time use Karys dry roux to dust your beef roasts before making a gravy. Use it anywhere you would use flour for making gravy’s

I know it’s not the same as from scratch but Karys ain’t bad. If you had some Teets sausage or Rabideaux’s that would make it even better.

I use this stuff as a base whenever I make a big batch to serve 25 people. I’ll do it once a year or so during lent and keep it meatless with shrimp and crab.

Will definitely try this. I exclusively use Kary's dry roux when making gumbo (have for years) and therefore it's a pantry staple. My mom used to dust her beef with flour but i normally just brown the hell out of my beef without dusting. I can see where this would add an additional layer of flavor.

Mine is too. Tomatoes in jambalaya, no fricking tomatoes in gumbo!

Okra in gumbo.,… check

Tomatoes in gumbo …. Check (I add to seafood but not chicken and sausage but would eat it either way)

Box gumbo….., check…. I have never done it , but looks tasty

I have no skin in this game, but every time I see the title of this thread I keep wishing for a video of beatboxing about gumbo.

I'm from Bunkie, and I have never seen anyone from Avoyelles Parish use tomatoes in gumbo.

I can’t believe no one has said Bailey’s yet. It has dried veggies and seasonings, although not clear on the box. It’s just good.
