Anyone got a recipe they like? I think I’m going to start making my own. I’ve done different varieties over the years: Dr Pepper, coke (the soda version), root beer, molasses vs brown sugar, etc

Never really found one that wowed me. I’ve recently gone crazy buying fruit trees and berries, and might start processing those into sauces and stuff.

Any competition pit masters in here? Maybe the best non store or restaurant sauce I ever had was from a competition guy who lived around Hinesville GA, near Savannah.

Look up Steven Raichlen , molasses chipotle BbQ sauce. Has bourbon in it and is great all around sauce,

It isn't what I grew up with, but I've become a fan of thin vinegar NC style sauce. This website has a lot of good info on that style of 'que and a sauce recipe... scroll down for sauce A.

His cookbook is a great read for basic pitmaster knowledge. It covers most everything, and is interesting even if you don't use the same type of grill.

I also got the impression that maybe, just maybe, he figured out how to make a great living and get to stay up all night drinking beer while tending a fire that, based on your grill, should tend itself fairly well. To that, I can only say, kudos!

1 1/4 C Ketchup
1/4 C Apple Cider Vinegar
1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
1 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
2 Tbsp Dijon Mustard
1 Tsp salt
1/2 Tsp Garlic Powder
1/2 Tsp Onion Powder
3/4 C Brown Sugar
1/3 C Molasses
1/4 C Honey
Combine ingredients and add to a sauce pan. Bring to a boil.
Turn heat down to medium and let simmer 20 mins. I recommend letting this sit in the fridge for an hour or two before serving.
Store in a mason jar 1-2 weeks in the fridge.

0.25 cup vinegar
0.5 cup water
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
0.5 teaspoon pepper
1.5 teaspoons salt
0.25 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 thick slice of lemon
1 sliced onion
0.25 cup butter
0.5 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons Lea & Perrins
1.5 teaspoons liquid smoke (optional)

Combine all ingredients except ketchup, Lea & Perrins and liquid smoke in a saucepan. Simmer uncovered for 20 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. It's good to go.
