Ruth’s. And there is no close second.

I've noticed the comments about RC's in Baton Rouge are always very positive.
I've only eaten at RC's in other cities and I've mostly always had good experiences, but is there something different about the BR location that makes it better than the average RC?
I seem to remember a post about it being one of the early locations and perhaps does things a little differently... not to knock the regular RCs.

Consistent, first class service and food is always spot on. Never have I had a poor experience at BR location. Lafayette and Dallas good as well.

Sullivans, French Market Bistro off Highland, & Little Village downtown are good options as well.

The details are fuzzy, but BR location is owned by a local guy and the menu is a bit different than the other locations. It’s the only location that cuts their own beef in house as well.
They run a tight ship. Staff is required to all be full time - no part timers. (Unless Covid/staffing craziness has changed this rule)
Ruth’s in general began in Louisiana, and BR was the first location beyond the original in New Orleans.
That’s all I got.

Thanks LL. I thought I had heard similar things either on here or somewhere else.

LL is right.
BR Ruth’s is definitely the best. Find myself at steakhouses across the country way too often….
Aweful.

La Lady- Lafayette was the second restaurant that Ruth Fertel open followed by BR and then Houston! The Lafayette store is now a corporate run that has lost it's luster since Patrick Fleming retired. A new steakhouse is on the way in the River Ranch area....stay tuned!

We have eaten at the one in Houston several times. The building is a weird setup but the steaks and service were solid. Wouldn't say it lives up to BR but good. Have also eaten at the St. Louis and Calgary locations. Both were very good. Got the best of both worlds in Calgary - RC prepared + Canadian grass fed.

This is sad for a city the size of Baton Rouge.

Why? Ruth's is awesome. I've always really enjoyed it everytime I went.

I disagree. There’s a lot left to be desired when it comes to dining in Baton Rouge, but I would put that RC up against almost any steakhouse I’ve been to, including those in much, much larger cities.

I guess when you’re a capital city with a metro population over 800k, one would expect more than just: "Ruth’s. And there is no close second".

Well, Ruth's is that good IMO. I think the hands on ownership sets it apart.

Its essentially not a chain restaurant is why. Their steaks will standup next to any place in the country

I realize this sounds silly if you haven’t been, but it’s not the same as every other RC. Others have explained why that is so I won’t rehash.
I’ve had better experiences at the BR Ruth’s Chris than I have at Peter Luger in Brooklyn, and while the experience at St. Elmo’s is cool the food wasn’t all that better overall. And as is well documented here, Tom Colicchio’s Craftsteak in Vegas is awful and far inferior (in my opinion).
But I don’t really get the hype over steakhouses so maybe I’m not the right audience.
